Thanks Amber. I’ll take a look at that one.
I’m going to try mixing up some of my own with a bit of iron gall components.

Ditto.  Any chance you can show it off relative to Manyo Koiai?

I don't have MK.  I'll try and ink up 4B for a CRV.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Back when they still had the B&M store in Pittsburgh, you could buy packs of the paperclips.  The cork coaster is a very nice gimme (there's a technical term for sticking little extras in packages but I don't remember what it is -- it's like Goulet Pens tossing in candy as a little "thank you" token to customers. [Missing Pens used to toss in a pack of Gummibears; which was lovely except for the fact that I am not supposed to HAVE stuff like that -- not after a spice drop pulled a crown off in my mouth, which did NOT, BTW amuse my old dentist ONE IOTA....]

I'm old and persist in calling those little surprises "lagniappe" which confuses the young. I do love Goulet's little candy and sticker surprises--love the stickers (okay, and the mini-Tootsie Pops).

And oof! on the spice drop! Your poor tooth and dentists are absolutely no fun.

Why do all the pen people send candy and lollipops? Goulet isn't the only one. I like the little drawings they send; they make good bookmarks!

@amberleadavisis waiting for Diamine 150th Dark Forest. ;)

LCdC sent some sort of cookies (as in baked goods, not text files associated with web browsing) with the orders they dispatched last year. I think the note accompanying them said they were made by a staff member.

Some Japanese eBay sellers send sushi-shaped erasers and such.

When I ordered a pen from Santini Italia directly, I don't recall their packing candy or lollipops with the pen for delivery, only a sheet of writing samples/tests for the nib. Fontoplumo sent a simple thank you note with each order.

PenGallery Malaysia didn't send anything I didn't order.

Maybe it's just a minority practice among US retailers, which as a group make for a small minority of “pen people” in the industry?

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Cult pens send love hearts (the new packaging is an improvement as you can actually get into them without them crumbling).

Perhaps there's an assumption that people who buy pens and inks also have a sweet tooth (I'd rather have savoury).

Stonecott send gorgeous postcards, which I always enjoy.

Overall, I'd much rather have a discount on stuff I want rather than a gift that I probably don't.

I don’t have any MK but if you send me a sample I could make a comparison.

I’m also looking into the Iron Gall “blues” from KWZ. These look like they have more of the IG components as compared to Salix.
I just received a large bottle of IG Blue/Black from ESSRI. There was a note inside that said the ink is in actuality clear, but because you can’t see a clear ink when writing that they add a blue dye to it! I’m not a chemist but found that fascinating. The IG then is all about reacting to the atmosphere and paper. Fascinating. Onward…

Another from when I was a kid lo! these many years ago, was "cumshaw". "Gimme" around here was restricted to give-away caps from feed stores, auto parts places and, of course, John Deere, as in, "Gimme one-a them caps."

What is Manyo Koiai? I thought I had all of this range apart from the four new ones that aren't available here yet.

Whoops.  They are all owned by the same company, right?

And @Nick T, if you would like a sample ofTaccia koiai, DM me.

Thank you for the offer of a sample @essayfaire My inky blue black journey is awash. KWZ IG Blue #1 and IG Blue Black are on the way to the collection’s sagging shelf.

I may seek professional help if my blue black obsession is not satisfactorily resolved soon.

I’ll take a look at TK next Thanks!!

Cheers - Nicholas

I'm pretty sure they're not. I think Taccia inks are made by the Nakabayashi company, not Sailor.

I'm not trying to sound pedantic, I just thought I might have missed something, having been away more than I'd intended this year.

Didn't think you were.  I thought Sailor owned Taccia these days. Just peeking now and all I can find is that Taccia inks are "made in Japan," so I may have been mistaken.

Yeah -- that's the word I was looking for: "lagniappe".  Thanks!

As for the spice drops, it was a complete bummer -- I used to like them a whole lot.

Spice drops are delicious and gummy candies are wonderful, so that's horrible on two levels.

I'm glad someone else remembers "lagniappe". Times always a-changing, I sometimes feel like I'm speaking an alien language (and okay, lagniappe is French, but you know what I mean).

Well I was familiar with the term because for a while a friend of mine had a business selling fabric online (not sure if it was eBay or Etsy or what) and she always included something like that in the shipping.  And that was way before I got into fountain pens.

Of course I saved one of the receipts/shipping paperwork from an early order sent to me from Goulet Pens -- simply because Drew had drawn a cartoon of Batmanon the paperwork! :D  I consider that a version of lagniappe....

My package from Birmingham Pens arrived. Gorgeous inks, really carefully packaged, and I love the cork "refilling coaster" and the nib-shaped paperclip holding the paperwork. It was well worth waiting for and now I have to decide what to fill a pen with first.

I really need to order from them, I grew up in Pgh, and some of the ink names make me miss home.
