What ink(s) are you waiting for in the mail?

Don't ya just hate when you want to buy 4 or 5 inks, and you can't find all in a single store?

Is that a rhetorical question to which you don't expect or even want an answer, or are you really asking your fellow hobbyists to solicit their views and gauge their sentiments, without presuming that they will agree with yours?

If you're asking, then my answer is: No, not really. If and when I'm seeking particular inks, then I simply don't expect all writing instrument specialist retailers to carry them. It would be folly to expect a single retailer to carry (for example) Platinum Mixable, Sailor STORiA, Colorverse, Wearingeul, Hero, PenBBS, Pennonia, Rohrer & Klingner, Noodler's Ink, and Troublemaker Inks as brands in the store's catalogue all at the same time; and that's without getting into limited/ special edition, store/region-exclusive, or discontinued ink colours, etc.

I am adverse to paying shipping charges at all, and almost always place large enough orders to reach free shipping thresholds; yet I don't have a problem with not having a one-stop shop, because I don't expect or demand to be able to get only what I want, piecemeal (i.e. as low-value orders) and whenever I want stuff. I have more than 450 different inks here on last count, so I'm not in a hurry to get any particular ink.

I am more likely to forgo certain inks at a given point in time and order from one vendor; the next order I will purchase from a different merchant who carries different lines.

Exactly.

Those consumers of a different mindset, who want to operate in a different way, are of course welcome to do so, even if their inflexibility/ impatience is what makes a rod for their own backs; and if they hate it, that's up to them to resolve that conflict and tension internally.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

There! That'll l'arn 'em!  Yeah!!!

LOL..just kidding of course. But I posted a short while back about finding myself in the very same predicament you describe....& on closer exam I'd bet It's the same seller....only, in my case I decided the shipping was a deal breaker.

Not all lines are drawn in ink.

Haha, yeah, I showed them. I looked up the pen before deciding and it was generally well-reviewed. I'm a sucker for shiny/red anyway, plus I got a 20%/$18 discount on it for creating an account. Then I noticed the inks were both 80ml so $150 (including the shipping) for a nice pen and 2 large bottles of ink didn't seem too out of line.

Funny thing, though - I had to spend several minutes wrestling with the site to add a separate ship to address after initially hitting the check out with Paypal button, and within a couple minutes I got a phone call from my bank's fraud department wanting to verify this was a legitimate transaction. Because it was Malaysia, I guess.

It's not bad enough that I have too many dictionaries and inks.  Apparently I have been remiss as I do not yet have a dictionary about the inks!  Enjoy!

It is pretty dangerous I have to say....

With the help of the two books and the catalog,  I have already collected all the information and how-to-buy details on at least 75 bottles of Japanese inks that are only available in Japanese market!

If it wasn't some shipping discrepancy, it would definitely be more than just two bottles you see here......

There are a lot of brands that are not globally known. Most of them make their own inks and some cooperate with Tag, Sailor or Tono & Lims according to the books. For example, The two inks in my picture are made by Sailor but were created by a well-known Stationary store, 三田三昭堂.

I'd say I really enjoy digging through these 3 books, cross-referencing and doing research.

I highly recommend these books if you can manage the language barrier and are interested in Japanese inks. (I don't know Japanese at all and only barely getting through it from the hanji I can pick out. The swatches are helpful too.)

That happened to me a few years ago, when I ordered the M405 Stresemann and decided to throw in the M405 Blue Black from a vendor on eBay (Rolf Thiel at Missing Pens, whom I'd ordered from before).  Within minutes of hitting the buy button, I got a call from PayPal, going "Did you know that a charge of X dollars was just sent to a vendor in Europe?"

"Why, yes, yes I did, thank you for calling!"

Got off the phone, looked at my husband and said, "OMG -- I really DID just spend that much money on ONLY TWO pens didn't I?" :o  (They're still my two most expensive pens....)

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Waiting on Noodler’s - Dark Matter, Purple and Zhivago.

You are going to find that purple is just an all around great ink. I think he should rename it Purple People Eater and it would sell better.

Thanks for the heads up. They’re arriving today and looking forward. I have so many Noodler’s inks that are purple related so I’m going to do some testing. I think after the # of Noodler’s black related inks here purple is next.

No participant here for that one - I haven't yet found the company that doesn't put out the occasional candidate for Masterpiece of Ugliness.
