16oz bottles of Apache Sunset and Navajo Turquoise came in today.  😁

16 OUNCES? :o  I mean, I like Navajo Turquoise a lot -- but not THAT much.  And as for Apache Sunset... er, um, the shading is nice -- but I have yet to find an actual orange ink I like enough to want even a NORMAL size bottle of -- which the possible exception of Diamine Terracotta (which is more brown than orange) and KWZI IG Mandarin (which oxidizes to more of a brown).

I also have really bad memories of a 4 oz bottle of Kung Te Cheng landing on my bathroom floor, after only a single pen fill.....

The only two inks I bought as really large bottles are vintage Skrip Peacock and winter Quink Permanent Violet.  And both of those got decanted into 2 and 4 oz. amber Boston round bottles with eye-dropper caps for easy usage (and I then gave the empty large bottles away to someone in my local pen club).

I  needed new bottles anyway, my original small bottles are almost empty, but those two colors are going away sort of.  Being renamed i think to something bland and boring.  The labels on the 16oz bottles scale up to match the size of the bottle which is great.

The only issue i have with Apache Sunset is the dry time.  If i'm using coated paper like Tomoe River it takes forever to actually dry and will smear hours later.

I went looking for one which sight of nearly took my breath away -- Winter October. But seems that's the one everybody else has wanted too - can't find it anywhere. So of course, i wound up buying everything else in stock. Guess I showed them!

*harumph!*

Seriously tho, you can likely see them best at Van Ness Pens, under the name [for some unknown reason] 'Ancient Charm'.

If you find any of that October, let me know!

Got me jonesing!

I’m not saying it’s the same, but when I looked at Winter October, it reminded of a PenBBS ink that used to be available at Vanness (no longer shown there), Hyacinth Macaw, Pen BBS #103.  I’m not sure where to find it but scroll down the review to the swab picture.

A 16oz bottle of Apache Sunset, and a 16oz bottle of 54th Massachusetts.  They will join my not so full 16oz bottles of Lexington Grey, HoD, and Liberty's Elysium.  I couldn't find the Navajo.  Wish I had a 16oz bottle of Galileo, but I guess my remaining 5 3oz bottles have to suffice, for now.  /waves to all

A 30ml bottle of Jinhao Deep Blue, because I've heard the Jinhao inks were actually surprisingly good for the price, and this one had water resistance and a nice colour to boot.

Vanness had it in stock but it seems to be out now.

Orange in a dip pen can be a fabulous thing, but it's much harder imho to get it to work in a fountain. I mainly write in a mixture of olive/army/murky greens and muted violet/mauve/purples, but oranges and pinks make a great contrast with these as the third leg of the stool. Above are four strategies that I have found to bring orange into my writing, still as an accent color but more useful than simply limited to highlights or annotations.

Thanks for posting the image.  The Taccia Koiame looks interesting because of the haloing (always a plus to my mind ) but overall too many of them seem to be similar in color to Diamine Terracotta (which I have) or Diamine Ancient Copper (which had a lot of nib creep and gunk buildup on the tipping in the pen I tried it in a few years ago -- too much for me to want to spring for a full bottle).  And I don't really use dip pens, although I have in the past when taking calligraphy classes in high school and college.

Finally arrived! I haven't seen many reviews of this, so I might embark on my first ink review.

Oh, I hope you do an ink review. I haven’t reviewed anything here on FPN.

WOW that's a lot of ink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I didn't even know JinHao made ink, so I certainly haven't read any reviews of it!

As i understand it Van Dieman's inks are mixed from Jinhao inks. And i like Van Dieman's very much!

I only became aware of Van Dieman's in the last year or so, but I've liked the couple I've sampled.

Huh, I didn't know that! The Jinhao bottle certainly punches way above its weight for fanciness ( it's essentially a Montblanc 30 ml bottle with a thinner cap) and the ink isn't bad either. The ink was a little disappointing colour-wise for me, but then again it's perfectly good ink.

Edit: Turns out the ink is a rather nice deep-blue with a touch of grey, in bright white light. I imagine this is how Platinum Blue Black looks out of the bottle. Sunlight/ yellowish light will make it appear a little greenish. It does have water resistance, it leaves a lighter blue behind.

Wow. Did not know this. I googled, and found this to be true, or at least what I gathered to be so.
