I'm quite interested in a couple of the Vinta/Cult Pens exclusives, most especially Ulap/London Grey, so I think holding off for a future order from them with other Vintas, including Armada, might prove to turn out wise.

Ulap in particular, is just lovely - one of my favourite inks of recent months. I got all of the Cult specials, and whilst I like the others, I love this one. It's very different to Armada.

Laban Mythology Series - Hera and Zeus 🙂

Great choices - Hera in particular is a really interesting shade. I like the Laban Mythology inks a lot, and they're good value as well.

I fairly recently picked up my first couple bottles of Vinta and have been quite pleased with them. The brand was completely off my radar.

That is great to hear...We just had a snow storm so my package is arriving late...I can't wait for my new inks!!!

Please check out my shop on Etsy - Sleepy Turandot

From what I can gather (by web search only), the names of the twelve colours in PenBBS Season 16 inks are one particular series of poetic synonyms for the twelve months in the lunar calendar, with #249 子春 (Zichūn) being the name of tenth month.

It turns out that PenBBS 249, which I'll call October (though the full poetic translation would be more distinctive), is a charcoal grey. Somehow I'd gotten the idea that the ink would have some green and/or brown in the grey, but it doesn't. In water, there actually is a hint of purple. The heavier ink section does have a slight gold or yellow sheen, but in writing, the color ranges from medium to medium-dark charcoal grey. (While wet, it looks black, as I suppose one would expect.)

I’m waiting on Kaweco Caramel Brown, Diamine Blue Edition Mistletoe, and Diamine Amaranth, Autumn Oak, Meadow, Presidential Blue, Blue Black, Tyrian Purple and Diamine Anniversary Espresso.  Cult Pens had the best price I found for the Retro 51 Escape fountain pen, so I couldn’t resist ordering the 30ml Diamine inks especially since they were 10% off.  Diamine inks are under $3 for 30ml when ordering from the UK.  Hard to resist that price vs US markups.

Is the text next to the ink spread/swatch wet? While I was hoping for more of a taupe I really like the text above a lot.

The ink wasn't actively wet at the time of photographing, no. However, I think that between the time of the writing above the swatch & that off to the side may have been the moment when I pumped a bit of ink out of the pen into water (I was using a TWSBI Swipe), to see what other colors might show up in the water. At the time of writing, in other words, the nib probably was running a bit drier and the ink thus lighter, whereas when the nib was freshly wettened, the writing ran darker. I'll go back & pay more attention later today, on a letter I began writing with that ink last night.

I'm really happy with the ones I've tried so far - especially Demeter Brown :happyberet:

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for Zeus and Hera to appear, and then I really need to get off this thread

It's really not a taupe. The closest it comes is a soft charcoal. It starts off a bit darker, but then lightens as the nib dries a bit. I'm not sure how well the photo is capturing it. This is on cream-colored Life Bank writing paper, and that might be throwing off the effect, too.

Great match - I love Vinta Sirena.

I really like the look of the pen too!

Lovely pen and great match.

Turns out my order of Akkerman inks got sent back to Akkerman. Some customs official labeled them as harmful chemicals or something along those lines. They are once again in the mail.

I'm OK with it not being taupe because I'd really like to have a charcoal grey - but not if it tends too much to black. Looks like it might possibly fit the bill, plus I could always dilute it.

Thanks again.

Hey PithyP, if you're looking at greys did you get to try the Kobe #10 or gawp at Nick Stewart's presentation of it here: https://nickstewart.ink/2021/11/22/kobe-fountain-pen-inks-10-18-swatch-tests/amp/

I think that one of us is obliged to try it!

ps I am in love with Vivaldi, as predicted, but it's consistently hard to get started each morning. Is this something you have encountered or do I just need to give my pen a floss?

Aye-ya. I guess this one goes on the want list.

I have not had any issues with Vivaldi - I have used it in maybe 4-5 different pens. Currently it happily fills a Pilot 78g B italic (which is more like a medium italic) and a dropper-filled Varsity. Perhaps a little drier than the average for Diamine.

Llanberis Slate, Summer Storm, Bleu Myosotis, and Lilac Night have arrived and are in the queue. Just need to clean out some pens.
