What ink(s) are you waiting for in the mail?

Hello BikerChick!
Having read your message I was inspired to try each of my blue violets on the same page with a big broad dip-nib . . but then I discovered, to my disappointment, that I already did that on the day they arrived! I would probably swap in Herbin Bleu Myosotis (left to dry for at least two days!) for the 223 at this point, but hopefully this is of some interest. The 223 is quite "petrol"!
Oh, and one I did even earlier with Myosotis, China Blue, Kakitsubata and (an old favorite) Oster's Summer Storm.

My first Diamine inks, Damson, Writer's Blood, and Midnight, in the 30ml bottles.

Pros: They're cheap.

Cons: They're cheap.

(If you know what I mean!)

I was lucky to find Parker Penman Sapphire ink. I like that shade of blue and dying to ink my new to me 1946 Vacumatic Parker 51 Double Jewel.

Which ink is the one at the very top, pgcauk?
And the shading on that Bleu Myosotis is very impressive.  Nice.

What is this money pit obsession hole I have fallen into?

The one at the top is the discontinued Keshimurasaki - which translates as "Ruined Purple" and was a popular color back in 9th century Japan, or something like that! My guess is a batch of purple dye got overcooked, or otherwise spoiled, and turned to grey and someone with refined sensibilities decided they liked the aesthetic? It's very pale and in some pens it has shading that's so extreme it looks as though the writing is partly erased, but in a nice wet dip-pen nib it can be magnificent!

Bleu Myosotis takes a day to get there! It writes a bright pale blue, which is not so appealing to me, but leave it overnight and it slowly gains pink as it ages. I think this is a mirror of it's namesake flower, the Forget-me-not? I have used it for condolence cards, which I thought was quite suitable.

Waterman Mysterious Blue - old version.

I was on one of our local kind-of-like-Amazon sites and Waterman Mysterious Blue was automatically recommended, with a picture of the current bottle & box, and a local source. The price was good - about $6 USD shipped (50 ml) - so I followed the link. So, I look down at the customer reviews and the two most recent ones (the most recent from a month ago), have pictures that show the older Mysterious Blue's bottle (white lettering) & box (white background on the top part).

I've always been interested in this one!

I have some ink from Birmingham Pens on the way, Tattered Jute (a water resistant dark brown), and a couple of blues (namely Sea Holly, Heron, and Penna Slate blue) that caught my eye.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ordered a bottle of Olivine last night (Monteverde, not Pelikan). Thought I'd try it in the yellow Optima.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Well, I always fancied the Cult Pens exclusive Deep Dark Orange but importing from the UK sounded like a chore. Oh well, now that their Oster exclusive Tiverton Rust has tipped me over I'm very pleased to find that their Diamine prices are reasonable enough to offset the shipping and they still have refills for the Music series, so the long wished for Vivaldi and Wagner are thrown in too!

Also, Cult Pens are totally set up for international, no fuss!

This is gorgeous work. Unrelatedly, your supply of Summer Storm looks much more interesting than mine, somehow. (Mine just looks like a blue-grey.) Lovely demo.

Please show us Tiverton Rust when you get it! I think you will like Vivaldi - I have been using it quite a bit with a fine italic - top shelf Diamine ink for me.

Cult Pens has been one of my 'go tos' for ink. They have a huge selection that they seem to be able to keep in stock continuously - I am amazed. And reasonable shipping prices (though I wish they didn't stop using Royal Mail, which has been fast and consistent).

Thanks Pithy! I found Grey-Greens and Grey-Blues a good while back, but "my" Grey-Violet has been an elusive thing.
Completely off the given topic, here's a page I made for you a while back but never got around to posting (I think), showing the remarkable similarity between Sailor Jentle Chu Shu and Callifolio Cassis. Looks like it would take a full on watercolor to explore the differences properly. Here they are very close, with a tad more pink in the Cassis?

Thank you!

Yes, Cassis is the Christopher Guest character from The Princess Bride! I A soft, menacing voice that keeps pulling you in, gradually. It's not 'my' purple-grey (Misty Mountain and Purple Jade are scratching that itch, at least for now) but I am smitten with it.

Diamine China Blue

2nd one along. A lovely clear bright pale blue. The only one on this page that doesn't have any violet leanings. Seems to be a single dye as no color seperation on kitchen towel etc.

and, I think will be in the same shipment, although I haven't been notified as yet:

  • Pelikan Highlighter Yellow (bottle of ink only)
