What ink(s) are you waiting for in the mail?

I would have been waiting for a Diamine Music collection but they seem to have left off Mendelssohn (either one would do!).  Usually in my house if we don't recognize a piece, but it's fantastic, it's by Mendelssohn so I don't think an ink set can be considered worthy without his inclusion.

I am a Mendelssohn fan but I wouldn't let his absence in the Music set stop you. I don't think the colors have much, if anything, to do with each composer's music. A muted violet-grey for the ebullient Vivaldi, for instance??? The composer names Diamine selected seem a bit arbitrary, at least to me.

Just ordered my first PenBBS ink: #157 Hangzhou City. I have been keen to try a PenBBS ink. just delayed because it was hard to decide whether to order a whole bottle or a sample of a brand unknown (shipping is the same cost and the sample is tiny). Anyway I went for the bottle, but played it safe by choosing a murky green. I'll be happy so long as it's more murky than not.

Will work for pens...

I hope you enjoy it. You have probably seen the review here, I'm guessing?

I waffled between buying this one or 229 Oolong and decided on Oolong, even though there is very little on the web to see of it (only this, pretty much: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C3I_T5-VUAAXm3C?format=jpg&name=large). It has very quickly become a favorite.

Thankyou. Yes, I did see the #157 review and was encouraged by it. I ordered from deskbandit.com because it they are in my state so shipping will be fairly quick, but stock seems limited. I just picked from what they have. They have 229 Oolong as a sample, but no bottles left and, I'm guessing, there won't be any more of that in the future. I didn't want to try something I cannot get!

Currently have 50ml bottles of Ina-Ho and Yama-🅱️udo out for delivery today! Been meaning to pick both up for over a year now, but seeing as the discontinuation of Ina-Ho is nigh, I figured now's the time. Sadly all of my pens are currently inked, so I've got some writing to do before I can try the new inks out! ✒🧛‍♀️🖤

That is HILARIOUS!  I so needed that today after dealing with stupee people on FB and the post from someone in my other hobby going on the mailing list for one of the awards just LIVID because someone went to one of the people she mentors and said "You should change your behavior or you'll never get that award!"  And I totally understand WHY she was so livid....

1) You DON'T discuss stuff about candidates outside of the meetings or mailing list -- and CERTAINLY not tell them what was said about them....  That's just rude (I once told a really good friend of mine that if he EVER said to me "X order is looking at you" I'd wash his mouth out with soap forthwith!

2) If you have a problem with a candidate, you go to the person's mentor and say "I've had an issue with Y and I think you should know about it" and let the mentor deal with it.

I've had the first happen to me -- and what was worse, the guy shouldn't even had his hands on the survey, or the discussions up to that point because he wasn't in the order -- his WIFE was.  I think he thought he was being helpful, but he wasn't.  I was bitching about it a couple of weeks later to a friend of mine, and HER response was "Well, I wouldn't have told you your name came up -- but since you KNOW do you want to know what was said?"  I said, "Sure, what the heck?"  And it turned out to be just too funny for words -- that I was quiet and overshadowed by the stuff my husband did!  And the joke was that I had just written HIM in for the award!  A couple of days later some other friends were over and I told them about it, and one said "Well OBVIOUSLY they didn't see the fingerprint bruises in his back!"  And the three of us just LOST it at that point.  My husband was sitting there going "It's not THAT funny!"  And I said, "Oh, yes it is!"  But at the same time it really soured me on the entire process, for a number of years....

Sigh.  Sorry for sort of hijacking the thread....  The nice thing about THIS hobby, OTOH, is that there are no "cookies" to win -- just "sumgai" bragging rights....

A back up bottle of the old Kyo No Oto #9 Kashimurasaki, which is discontinued, and next to illegible in most fountain pens have tried, but such a lovely subtle hue and in a dip-pen it's magnificent!

Along with I had a list of Ink Studios that I wanted to try, mostly on the edges of violet:

223 - I got a full bottle. I was intrigued by the violet grey anyway, the ink shown at Fountain Pen Pharmacist would be enough for me, but once I saw the chromatography over on The Well Appointed Desk this became an essential; a cool grey that seperates out into a full rainbow!! I see magenta, purple, blue, teal, green, yellow!

The rest are samples:

343 - on the blue side of violet, but this has become a real zone for me. I am in love with Sailor Manyo Kakitsubata, so, errrr, why not try more similar inks?

350 - fun to compare?

452 - another Scabiosa substitute?

173 - this one does interest me. I am still on the quest for the perfect coral. I have the Herbin, which is lovely fresh but dries on the pink side, Kobe #12 which is stunning (almost literally in a wet pen!) but dries to a very nice shell pink, mostly. 173 looks more in the Orange Camp. They have two videos over at Anderson Pens; one shows it as anaemic orange in handwriting - bleh (and the reason this is a sample only), the other, applied like paint, shows a magnificent pink peach.

So some genuine experimenting to look forward too!

Two of my favorite inks too, permanent fixtures in my ink collection. Their color shade is very similar, but 343 is more unsaturated, dustier. Careful though, this ink opened the floodgates for me as far as Sailor Studio inks are concerned.  :)

Where'd you find this one, if you don't mind sharing?

I think I got the penultimate, followed by the ultimate from Anderson Pens. It's no longer listed as in stock there now. I love the hue but it's lack of saturation and extreme shading are a challenge to most pens I have tried, but in a broad italic dip pen it's a thing of glory! Good luck!

I must admit, I'm having some regrets that I only got a sample of 343 and a bottle of 223 - wishing that had been the other way round. I agree its close to Kakitsubata, but distinct enough for me! 223 on Life Bank paper is actually repulsive! I was looking for Grey-Violet, not Arsenic Green!! Chameleon inks can be tricky things!

I was quite pleased with my tests on watercolor paper - I'll paste them in below.

I ordered some samples:Van Diemans, Colorverse Cape May,  some Robert Oster cirites and a bottle of Vaness's white lightning ink additive. I've also been moving inks/samples around and discovering some samples I didn't realize I had (people brought them to the Pelikan hub).

Hi BikerChick!
Here are a couple of images I thought you might be interested in:

5 Ink Studio Violets.jpg

Blue Grey Violets Dec 21.jpg

In the second one the three descending cubes from the top are Keshimurasaki, Kakitsubata, 343. on the left is the new Kyo No Oto #9, Sakuranezumi, which at first I had down as a dupe for (old) Scabiosa, but I am falling for the lovely pink that emerges from the murk in a wash. On the right is 223, which I haven't come to terms with at all yet! The Green was a result of me picking up the wrong pen!

Very nice indeed, @pgcauk, thank you for this! Yet another incentive for me to try and get Keshimurasaki.
I'm glad you're enjoying 343, it truly is a beautiful ink.

My bottle of 223 has been on backorder since July, so I've been very patient, but looking at this, I can't wait to get it. That looks positively radioactive.

PS: I love your handwriting.

re: Yama-Budo ... I was also procrastinating way too long to get a bottle. Should have bought it years ago. Dreamy color.

Presently I'm waiting for a bottle of Lamy Bronze to (loosely) match my Terra-Cotta Safari.
