I think you must be right.

And to think that just a few years ago I was blissfully unaware of any of this stuff and happy with my Bic Round Stick ballpoints bought by the dozen.

That doesn't end it - just kicks the can forward to the next generation.  You know, like debt! ;)

Kaweco Smokey Grey and Caramel Brown have shipped today. I have had both in cartridges that arrived a while ago - takes ages to use up with EF nibs - so I've had plenty of time to decide I do want bottles. I save my empty cartridges for re-filling anyway, but these may well be the rare occasion when I'm re-filling with the same ink. These are the new 50ml bottles too.

Will work for pens...

I sinned again! Let's see if some Higher Being decides it is not to be and throws a spanner in the works once more.

I've been waiting to get an update from a retailer, who said they managed to secure the last remaining stock of 50ml bottles of Sailor Jentle Shikisai inks that the regional distributor has ‘found’, as to which colours are available. Not a word in over seven months; and each time I looked, there had only been reduction in the range of colours (that I don't want) in the online shop's catalogue, with nothing ‘new’ being added. I'd given that up as a lost cause.

Then, less than twelve hours ago, I got a marketing email from the retailer telling subscribers that there's a site-wide, 24-hour flat rate discount sale, so out of curiosity I went and had another look. (Yes, I looked at that site just two days ago; some of the clearance items had already gone, ahead of this sale. The Pelikan M205 Demonstrator is still there, though; and it doesn't appear that the retailer has put a stock limit on that item.) To my absolute surprise, additional colours of the Shikisai inks had become available in 50ml bottles at the old price (before discount)! I played around with the shopping cart, ahead of the sale's code becoming active, and it appeared that there are only two or three bottles of those other colours being added.

And so, I couldn't help myself but ordered every last 50ml bottle of Doyou, Shigure, and Wakaugisu they had, plus a bottle each of Irori (which I discovered only two days ago that I really like) and Kinmokusei.

That said, last time I saw that those colours were available and ordered them, that part of my order got cancelled because allegedly the stock count in their system was inaccurate, and they didn't have any to sell. Let's hope this time they didn't just erroneously add those few bottles back into the system ahead of the sale, even though they never got any NOS from the distributor!

Which shop were those inks from, Dill? Thanks.

PenGallery Malaysia.

For your convenience to easily see what is available:

https://www.pengallery.com.my/search.php?search_query="50ml Four Seasons"&section=product&sort=alphaasc

Part of the reason why I bought so many is because the threshold value for free international shipping to Australia is non-trivial. (The other part is just that I'm an irrational nut case.)

I suppose their prices for the Sailor Manyo inks and (20ml bottles of) Shikiori inks aren't bad, after the 11% site-wide discount with the application of the promo code sent out in the newsletter. Also, given Diamine Jalur Gemilang (one of my favourite inks!) and Manggis are store-exclusive inks, if you like them this is one of the few opportunities you'd be able to get them at a discount from the single source.

I was keeping an eye out, in case someone else managed to get a jump on those inks. The promo code was programmed to only become active at a certain time, but (to my surprise) it was activated one hour earlier than was stated in the newsletter. Probably something to do with daylight saving not having been taken into account by the author of the newsletter…

Thank heavens the M205 Olivine gift set was already gone hours ahead of the promo code becoming active; otherwise I may have done something even more irrational and stupid.

The M200 Smoky Quartz gift set was also already gone.

The M205 Demonstrator is very favourably priced with the 11% discount, but I just don't like demonstrator pens that much; it's always going to appeal to me as the inferior, cheaper sibling of the same model of pen in other colours. Even the M205 Olivine (of which we already have one, but it stays with my wife) isn't what I think looks great; and the M200 Smoky Quartz is my least favourite out of the M20x and M40x pens in my fleet. It's ‘dedicated’ to the use of Platinum Classic Ink Khaki Black; but I'm happy to put any ink it in that I would otherwise fear could stain, say, the M200 Gold-Marbled or M400 Tortoiseshell-White.

If buying ink is a sin ... well, then I know where I'm going. 👿

Before my ink-buying moratorium I asked the person I was buying PenBBS ink from if she would consider adding some colors I am interested in. Well, I got a message from her saying she had added some of them, and she included a nice voucher code for me. And she also previously gifted me a 15ml bottle of PenBBS 397 Breakfast Time because I was her first customer. So, given her kindness, I was pretty much, uhm, *obligated* to buy some - was I not???

Four 15ml bottles for around $12.50 USD shipped. More than twice as expensive per ml than the 60ml bottles but still not too shabby. I think this series - 28th season - comes in 15ml bottles only.

Those look gorgeous! Sigh!

PenBBS do fire up that "collect the set" thing rather well! I bought a bottle of #502, which I am very happy with, but the presentation is so nice that I am tempted by the rest in that series, the ones with botanical label art, even though they are large bottles, expensive (from a US stockist) and the scant reviews I can find don't mention anything special. But (I just checked again!) they do look special to me (especially the browns; 508, 510 and 520?)!!

I saw someone on here was "collect all the ones named after cities"! There are some lovely inks in that series too, but I remember the feeling of being a child in a toyshop and rather hoped I'd moved on!

What strikes me with your well curated choices is how 401, 402 and 404 resemble my recent purchase of the three Kyo Iro inks; Stone Road, Moonlight and Soft Snow. I was struck by how well those inks worked together as a series.

I hope these are as delightful as their presentation here. Please report back!

In fact, 502, 504, and 508 are the ones from that series I asked if she could get and she ended up adding the whole series. 520 looked like it might be intriguing but the scant reviews were not enthusiastic. I am holding off buying them because they are relatively expensive, as you say.

Yes, I have Stone Road and Moonlight (and really want Soft Snow). The review of 401 on Vanness made it sound intriguing and significantly different from Stone Road - the review summary: "A soulful brown ink with pools of green and pink". Moonlight was one I wasn't sure I would like but it ended up totally opening my horizons to how wonderful orange can be - it's a very special ink, I think - and now I am really interested in that neighborhood of color. Violets and purples are my bread and butter and I have been so happy with 227 Purple Jade and 346 Misty Mountain that I am eager to explore more of their violets.

BTW, mostly their purples don't seem as attractive to me as their violets but I have recently started playing with my bottle of 344 Mulberry and it is very interesting - sort of like KWZ Brown Pink but the hues and shading of Mulberry are more tasteful to me. (I am not sure why it reminds Fountain Pen Pharmacist of Summer Storm - they are very different. Regardless, she does a good review of it.)

Well, I can vouch for the 502, which is as described an army green tending grey (rather than the more common "murky" green brown), but also warn about the seductive beauty of the presentation!

Real life confession: I am rather drawn by the color of #381, Frosted Leaf In Autumn, but the packaging on that one is so ugly that the 500 series has more of a pull - even if the colors don't!

I don't think I approve of myself on this one!

Is there anywhere that ships PenBBS inks to Australia? I looked on Etsy recently and it said no.

Will work for pens...

There are one or two sellers on AliExpress that will sell to customers with Australian delivery addresses, but not only are the shipping charges rather prohibitive these days for service that isn't reliable (although that's not necessarily the sellers' fault), the asking prices are also high, thus — at least in my view — making ordering PenBBS inks from them a very uncompetitive value proposition.
