I still haven't finished any of the 50ml bottles of Pilot Iroshizuku ink I bought in 2013. In fact, I don't think any of them are even half-consumed. Even though I enjoy the look of Ina-ho, especially when coming out of my Pilot ‘Hannya Shingyo’ which is adorned with the text of the Heart Sutra written in gold maki-e on the barrel, I think I'd be more upset if it was Platinum Classic Ink Khaki Black or even Citrus Black that is being discontinued.

At the current street prices for Pilot Iroshizuku, in the absence of clearance discounts, I don't think I'll be leaping to secure any more bottles of any colour.

I recently sold off unopened bottles of Tsukushi and Kirisame in a lot of eight Iroshizuku bottles. I wish I had known about the status change - I could have saved them for 6 months and then gotten rich! LOL

One of those 3 soon-to-be-defunct Iroshis went on sale for $16(US!), on Amazon believe it or not, so I's all over it like white on rice! Tossed 3 bottles into my cart & proudly dashed off to Checkout to claim it before it vanished into Never Never Land as a couple other finds I dilly-dallyed around with & lost.

Then I saw the $31 shipping charge. So, technically, this post shouldn't be here.

If I said I'll fix it, I will. There's no need to remind me every 6 months.

I don't know what made me laugh harder, your post or this:

What is this money pit obsession hole I have fallen into?

I can get 50 ml for approximately US $22.  The smaller bottles are available in a three-pack, but then you get less ink for more money. The problem is as soon as I go to buy ink, I immediately add other things to get to the shipping minimums.  Not so mindful.

I'm also eyeballing my bottle, noticing that even though I keep a vintage Parker permanently inked with Ina-ho it is still about 80% full, and trying to do the math and figure how many years it would take for me to run out.  Probably enough that I shouldn't be rushing to buy a new bottle.

I'm awaiting Christmas-card inks, Diamine Poppy Red and Monteverde Yosemite Green.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

$22 is comparatively cheap. About half the price they sell for in the UK.

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a 30 ml vial of Birmingham Tesla Coil. It’s on the way. For those who’ve used it, what has your experience been regarding pen clogging? I was planning on using a glass dip pen to fully exploit its properties.

Just reporting back to say my Ina-Ho came! I l usually compare everything close in color, read every review, dither awhile, get a sample, dither some more, but this time I just looked at one review and said, I need that ink. And I was so right.

For me it's a full bottle of Noodler's Akhmatova (which is a weird color greyish green, but it's sort of growing on me), plus some samples: Robert Oster Sydney Lavender, Dragon's Night, and Cherry Blossom; plus a sample of Pennonia Tihanyi Lila Tihany Purple.

Not of course that I NEED more samples of course.... :headsmack: (I passed up on some other samples when I realized how high the running total was getting, because I was also ordering one of the new White and Red Safaris).  I looked at it this way -- I have the Dark Lilac and the Violet, and then I have the French Blue I got used.  And the French Blue needed another Safari to pal around with.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

I’ve got a 6 color set of Diamine ink on the way. The included colors are Amber, Oxblood, Imperial Purple, Aurora Borealis, Oxford Blue and Meadow. Other than a few samples this is my first time buying Diamine ink, so I’m kind of jumping in with both feet, but I liked the colors and it was a good deal so I don’t really have anything to lose.

I have Oxblood and Oxford Blue of your selection and based on my enjoyment of them, and other Diamine favourites such as Ancient Copper, Umber Green, Writer’s Blood, Amethyst, Chocolate Brown and Syrah amongst others I think you’ll have a lot of fun with them. Is there any ink manufacturer that gives more you bang for your buck than Diamine? I don’t think so..

@The MustardI consider what I paid for this set a steal, but I just learned that Diamine ink is even less expensive in the UK. The normal going rate around here is $7.50 for 30 ml.  Apparently there exists a magical land called Cult Pens where such prices would be unheard of. I guess that’s what I get for living somewhere that fountain pens are a memory to the older generation, a mystery to the middle aged, and a myth to the young.

Spending some time in the fountain pen section on reddit will lay that myth to rest.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Somehow I don’t think the average teen spends much time there. Ask a population of randomly selected teens to describe: A, a fountain pen model of their choosing and B, the latest trend on tik-tok. I think you’ll find moderately informed responses to the former dwarfed by detailed explanations of the latter. I was a high school teacher for years I saw thousands of writing instruments used, none of which were a fountain pen. If a student asked a question about one of my pens it was “What is that?” never an inquiry about about a brand, model, or even an acknowledgment that it was a fountain pen. As I was speaking about the youth of my community, I maintain that fountain pens do not make up a noticeable part of their reality. I’d be surprised if many places in America were significantly different in this regard.

Just dropped a new order to Vanness:

  • Kaweco Midnight Blue    50ml
  • Kaweco Caramel Brown  50ml
  • Pelikan 4001 Dark Green 30ml (wish they had the 62 ml size)
  • Taccia Jeans Indigo 40ml

The Taccia is the only new one to me, but I have used and enjoyed the "Classic Blue" Jeans ink from that line.

You're most certainly right. That said, r/fountainpens and r/pens do seem to skew quite young compared to this forum. I guess that's a reddit thing - maybe most of the hobbyist channels there skew young, aside from the ones with a very expensive entry point.
