I'll admit that I'm still tempted by the greyish-blue one....

But at the moment I don't think I could put together a big enough order at the moment to get me free shipping from the UK.  Hoping that if that happens in the new future that inks is still available -- because I can see myself liking it.

Why, thanky kindly for your suggestion, Ms Amber Lea .. but I'm not quite that aboard. LOL

After much study & perusal, I decided I'll put it in a Kaweco SE AL Sport in 'Vibrant Violet', with a Broad nib. Also might pick up some Kaweco Purple, if I can find a bottle that won't cost more to deliver than the ink's selling price!  Oddly enuff, nobody who has the pen (at an acceptable price, even with Memorial Day discounting) carries the Kaweco ink -- at least, that I could find. I'm sitting here thinking of *shudder* buying some in cartridge form!

ST Dupont Flamboyant Red, Colorverse Dromgooles NASA blue and KWZI Dromgooles Discovery Green.  It's been a long time since I ordered ink and these colors just said my name!

Ooh.  Pix when you get them!  Especially the Dromgoole's NASA Blue, which sounds very interesting....

Another two bottles of Herbin Cacao du Brésil, which I added at the effective price of A$4.50 each to pad an order of several packs of Sakae TP Tomoe River FP 52g/m² paper I don't particularly like, just so I can avoid paying A$7.99 in shipping charges that would otherwise be consumed by intangible service; I guess one could argue that the 60ml of ink as tangible product cost me A$1.01 in marginal spend.

The order was placed on Friday evening after close of normal business hours, and dispatched by post first thing Monday morning. That's pretty damn prompt for a retailer that is neither Amazon nor operating out of China!

So these arrived earlier this week, and you should definitely be glad you didn't bother.

I've tried them with various pens, papers and nibs, and remain hugely underwhelmed.

These are not duo-colour inks. They're not even very interesting as single-colours.

large.KWZ-duos.jpg.e68c90d87f50c9796a8c46b7bd8d042d.jpg

The brown/green has, perhaps, just a hint of green when it's wet, but absolutely nothing once it dries. It's just a rather ordinary, slightly grey leaning brown. It's perfectly well behaved, but nothing that I'd bother with again.

As for the blue/grey, well, I suppose it's a greyish dark blue - more navy than anything, but there's not a hint of any shading, sheen or anything else.  If ever a pair of inks failed to deliver on any sort of promise (and the descriptions really did sound promising) it's these two.

Ah phooey...I already have "Stone road of Gion" so my grey-browns are covered.
Thank you for this informative post...I was going to pull the trigger on the "Brown/Green" on tomorrow.
Righteous save!

PenBBS 390 Guilin (60ml)

PenBBS 391 (60ml)

I am most interested in 390, a light brown that has gotten good reviews. Even though there seems to be next to nothing about 391 online, the incremental shipping cost for a 2nd ink was low and, while there are not a lot of inks to choose from with this shipping break, 391 seems like it might be an interesting grey blue. I was a bit surprised to learn (after I already ordered it) that it is a pigment-based ink.

These will be my first PenBBS inks and my first pigment ink.

I can promise you that you will LOVE "Penbbs - #390".
It's a chromo-shader so it starts out a murky olivine green...and dries to that beautiful sunset brown.
Sometimes it appears skin-tone on some papers, while on others it becomes more tanned.
Beautiful ink...absolutely magical...and my favorite brown.

BTW, 391 is named for Su Shi (苏 拭), a noted poet, writer, calligrapher, painter, and jack of many other trade, from about 1000 years ago. I found a couple paintings of him and I am hoping that the ink color matches his robe.

InkstainedRuth asked for photos....

I used two hard rubber Watermans (a 56 and a 13) that didn’t lay down a wet line, I will find a wetter nib for the Discovery Green in the final photo.

Ooh, I rather like the look of NASA Blue....  The Dupont Flamboyant Red, though, not so much -- too eye-searing for me.

Oh this is such a dangerous site....

Oooh...thank you for this! I was looking at that ink last week!
Very interesting...super high sheen on that one, unfortunately not in a color I favor.
Looks beet-reddish-purple to me...is it just me?
Anyone else seeing this?

I dunno....on this tablet it looks as dark green as it does anything else. ??? Maybe some sign of sheening, red tinged, or just chromatic aberration.

I am beginning to have second thoughts about this morning's wisdom of ordering two expensive Girologio pen cases (12, 24) in the same order as a bottle of Heart of Darkness.

Time will tell, but I am going to be nervous up to the moment the box arrives. 😬

I'd decided to get some new-to-me, good quality Pacific Rim papers to try, so last night settled down with the tablet & dug in.  Once done, then went a little crazy playing the 'Buy Just A Bit More & Get Free Shipping' conundrum. When the smoke cleared, the remaining inks list looked something like:

Lyre Bird Pure Blue

3Oysters Navy Blue

3Oysters Black Moss

3Oysters Chili Red

Robt. Oster Astorquiza Rot

Colorverse Project 004 Dirty Red

(It's a sickness.)  😉
