Expecting some Birmingham inks soon!

La, la, la, la - hands over eyes, I can't see the words Birmingham Inks, I don't need them, I don't want them, I don't covet them, I can't get them in the UK so I must not even look at them again.

Why did they have to be such pretty colours?

Haha I've been feeling that way about some Australian inks that don't ship here to the US! :')

If you'd ever be interested in trying some samples I'd be happy to send some your way if you'll help cover postage! So far I have Violet Starling, Riot Ember, Root Beer, Raspberry Rain, and Southern Portal + those 5 I listed above coming soon (I hope!).

Ordered a bottle of Blood Orange for the M600 Red Tortoise, which means I can't use it for 3 weeks (unless I want to try something else in it while I wait).

In other news, no updates from the USPS on the Pinkly!  since the 12th. I realize there's a big snowstorm happening back east but c'mon, it's not like they're not used to snow.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Bless you. I know I'm going to cave in though, and will probably end up just getting a bunch of them and taking the customs hit (again!). It's just whether it happens before or after the Robert Oster spree that I've promised myself in the new year.

Enjoy your spree and let me know if you change your mind! I highly recommend Raspberry Rain and Violet Starling especially - I've loved writing with them so far. :)

I have two custom pens arriving in July, so I ordered inks for them today. Just to get in the mood.

KWZ Red and IG Blue Black.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I have a friend in Hong Kong, she keeps an eye out for exclusive inks for me. She could only get two bottles of this ink available and benevolently sold me one.
I'm hoping it gets here sometime soon...stupid holiday postal snafu.
😒

I would be happy to share a sample of it with you once it arrives, if you like.
I attached a pic of the ink in action...

:lticaptd:

I keep wondering how that new one, Ice Rink, compares color-wise to Smithfield Street Bridge Truss Blue and Cathedral of Learning Panther Blue (although I suspect that my husband, who went to Carnegie-Mellon, would call it "Heights of Ignorance Panther Blue" ;)).

The "new" Waterfront Dusk looks pretty in the swab on their website.  But I bought a bottle of the old formula (back when they still had the B&M store) in a (so-far fruitless) attempt to find an ink that gave me the gorgeous deep color of Noodler's Kung Te Cheng and at least *some* of its permanence without being so badly behaved in pens.  So the color change is disappointing.]

WOW!  That one looks AWESOME.  Is that shimmer or sheen that I'm seeing?

Just made another ink purchase - I only just now got my first true black ink since I find black boring for fountain pens given all the color options. But I just got into broad nib calligraphy using Pilot Parallels so I decided on Noodler's Heart of Darkness (excited for the Charlie pen, too) since scripts like blackletter look really cool with a deep, jet black on white paper. And at the same time I decided to get El Lawrence since I really like that it's a motor oil sort-of-almost-black-but-also-brown kind of unique looking color. And finally Black Swans in Australian Roses since it seems to be a go-to Noodler's ink, and I like that it's similar to my favorite iroshizuku ink (yamabudo) but doesn't sheen and is permanent. Nothing crazy or hard to find at all, but I'm always particularly excited waiting on a shipment of Noodler's for some reason.

I promise myself not to buy more ink for at least a couple months.

It is royal purple that sheens to mild brown with a sky blue shimmer particulate.
It is absolutely amazing...I've been waiting on pins and needles for this one.
The last ink she sent to me, Diamine - Lion Rock, changed my whole fountain pen world.
I have a feeling this "Kong Girls" will do even more...

I think both of those latest Diamine Hong Kong specials look amazing. But I'm starting to really dislike their 'exclusives'.

I find it utterly ridiculous that I should have to have ink made 150 miles from me in the UK shipped thousands of miles to reach me. Makes no sense from a financial or ethical point of view.

I realise there's a desirability factor to limited editions and short runs that appeals to all of us magpies and collectors, but this is a consumable - at least give us a chance to buy it without it having to be shipped such a huge distance twice over.

Where is it written that you have to  😱 purchase inks made exclusively for particular markets Germany/Malaysia/Hong Kong, etc, far from your country of residence? Hmm?

Do you have, in you collection; Japanese inks, Australian inks, Chinese Inks, Italian inks, German inks? Some of which have been shipped thousands of miles. I know I do. In several cases doubling the price.

Mind you, when younger I ate truffles, foi gras, and drank Haute-Brion, and Chateau d'Ychem; clearly indicating that I had no sense. Now I eat beans and rice, and drink tea, and till don't have any sense, as I have Maruzen Renga, Jalur Gemilang and Shooting Star of Jonuma inks

We have choice.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Because of another thread about cheap pens I was tempted to get a Platinum Prefounte. Ordered from Cult Pens but then you need ink and there is the free shipping if you buy more than £???

Hooboy, so trigger pulled on:

  • 1 x Clairefontaine Round Leather Pencil Case Brown (CF65649)
  • 1 x KWZ Sheen Machine Ink 60ml Sheen Day Green (KZ66340-GN)
  • 1 x Platinum Prefounte Fountain Pen Night Sea Medium (PT69439-M)

All arrived today and that ink is gorgeous!

I expressed myself badly to begin with - shame on me for not reading my own edits more carefully before posting to ensure clarity and syntactical perfection.

My issue was not with buying ink from a long way away - of course I do that - though when possible from local suppliers who've imported by sea rather than air mail. What's daft is that the only way I can acquire an ink that I like the look of, which is made only a couple of hours away from me, is by buying it from thousands of miles away - so it's travelled twice the distance, rather than just the single journey that my other imported inks have.

But you knew that ;)
