What ink(s) are you waiting for in the mail?

90ml bottles of Monteverde Brown Sugar and Horizon Blue arrived today

I had those exact two in my hands at my B&M on Saturday! They are on special; colors no one uses, I guess. I was waiting in line to pay, and then put them back on the shelf. I am not convinced that the IITF won't damage the feeds of my 1911L and 1911S or leave some sort of film behind.

Sailor 1911 feeds are almost indestructible, no chance ITF would damage it.

Seeking a Parker Duofold Centennial cap top medallion/cover/decal.
My Mosaic Black Centennial MK2 lost it (used to have silver color decal).

Preferably MK2. MK3 or MK1 is also OK as long as it fits.
Preferably EU.

ITF is not something agressive. I use olivine. I've encountered no problems.

Monteverde Horizon Blue appears to have the reputation here and there of being one of the (if not simply the) closest to Parker Penman Sapphire in terms of presentation on paper; and, given so many long-timers and newcomers alike seem to irrationally and almost singularly yearn for PPS, and Monteverde being relatively cheap as far as inks go, I doubt "no one uses" Horizon Blue.

PPS is the only ink of which I used up a full retail completely in normal applications of pen and ink (as opposed to creating ink splatters, giving away samples, inadvertent spillage, etc.), when I first dabbled in fountain pens a long time ago, so I must have had a real preference for it then, consider my bottles of other Parker Penman ink colours including Ebony was at best half-consumed. It took me a long time to "get around to" trying Monteverde Horizon Blue, partly because it's positioned as a cheaper ink in today's market, but just not that cheap (including shipping and tax) for me to acquire. I like the colour, and so does my wife (who has never used PPS), and I think it's as good and fit as dozens of other blue inks for everyday general use, if that shade of blue appeals; but I wouldn't judge it as being better than Sailor blue dye-based inks (e.g. Shikiori souten), Herbin Bleu des Profondeurs, or even Monteverde's own Ocean Noir. There are plenty of 'fancy' and/or interesting Diamine blue inks that are cheaper.

Nevertheless, because I was able to get 90ml bottles of Monteverde Horizon Blue at a good price for Amazon UK — significantly cheaper than what Cult Pens, La Couronne du Comte, etc. or even Amazon US and Amazon AU have offered — so I padded an order with my second bottle, to qualify for free Prime international shipping; and then another two bottles of it padding a subsequent Amazon order.

As for Monteverde Brown Sugar, it was one of the first Monteverde colours outside of Fireopal that got my attention; so, when I could finally get it at a good price (again from Amazon UK), I went for it. I'm glad I took that opportunity — and, no, I haven't opened the bottle and tried the colour for myself yet — because that door seems to have since been shut, at least for now.

...

The only new-to-me ink colours I'm now waiting on is Diamine Steel Blue (as padding for a Cult Pens order), and four out of the eight new Sailor Manyo colours. The other bottles that will come are all repeats.

Edit (again): Oh, I forgot I also have Visconti Blue, Waterman Serenity Blue, Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Black and Edelstein Moonstone on order. Those ink colours are new to me too. I've completely lost track mentally of what I've ordered lately!

It's not a put-down. Nostalgia is irrational, and so is love or even liking; it's human to be irrational sometimes and in some things, even if they're mathematicians and scientists by training and consider themselves thinking, 'logical' types. I'm one of those, and I have irrational thoughts and behave irrationally quite often.

I doubt "no one uses" Horizon Blue.

Yes, in this particular case.

I went back to buy them and spoke to the owner to find out why the inks were in the clearance items basket (there were also bottles of Canyon Rust and some kind of green). He confirmed that it was because nobody liked those colors, preferring Ecoline ink colors and Schmincke Adquadrop for watercolor or mixed media art forms, and Sennelier and Winsor & Newton inks for calligraphy. The store is an art supply store, not a stationery store, so the majority of the customers are not into fountain pens or fountain pen inks for daily writing. I was actually surprised when he started carrying Monteverde. He has India inks, calligraphy inks, inks with shellac, and Pilot Mixable cartridges with Parallel pens, but that’s all.

Rats! Canyon Rust is next on the short list of Monteverde ink colours I'd like to buy at Amazon UK's prices as order padding, but it hasn't come up.

Earlier today I had to pad another Amazon order, and I ended up ordering a bottle of J.Herbin 1670 Gris Orage. The price was just OK, comparable with (but a smidgen over) Cult Pens's regular price, but of course I could get it cheaper by 10%-15% if I just waited for the next discount campaign.

I couldnt resist picking up some shimmery samples... I am not a big shimmer ink person but recently I rekindled my love of sparkly gel pens (I know- not a fountain pen). I ordered Diamine Jack Frost, Diamine Happy Holidays, Robert Oster Heart of Gold, Vinta Cosmos, and Robert Oster Grey Seas (not a shimmer, but I love those medium-tone blues and off-blues). Im really excited for Jack Frost!

Trying to decide what pens to fill before the inks come. I think I might be a bit more unabashed than some- I kinda put whatever inks I want into any pen haha. One day Ill probably melt a sac, and then Ill learn.

Oh I LOVE RO Grey Seas. I really need to get myself a full bottle. Or maybe a couple of bottles so I don't run out....

Oh that’s so great to hear! It was a final add on to my order at the end— I’d never heard of it before. Excited to try it out!

How would you say Monteverde as an ink company fits between other brands like Diamine, Sailor, Pelikan, Faber Castel, Noodlers etc.

Are they usually dry or wet, inks to be weary of, behavior on paper, must try?

I am pretty new to ink. By new, I mainly stick to Pelikan 4001 series, Sailor, a few Noodlers (3), and just tried my first Diamine inks last week. I must say, that Diamine may be my to go ink for available colors , price, and preformance with the pens I mostly use (Pelikan).

Yeah, I'm thinking about it...

I just tried Monteverde Brown Sugar (by dipping a pen only and not properly filling it). Looks somewhat like De Atramentis J.S. Bach, at a significantly lower price. I like!

Ha ha! Too funny: Bach, yes; but the one in the Diamine Music set. I don't have De Atramentis inks in my stash.

Hmm. De Atramentis Bach is apparently relabeled De Atramentis Ebony, which (according to their website) appears to be a deep burgundy red/brown. Is that what Monteverde Brown Sugar is like? (I haven't tried either ink.)

Not in the mail, but I visited Catherine’s Sakura Fountain Pen Gallery in Diest (Belgium) yesterday, and went home with a whole bunch of Taccia inks. I look forward to playing with them.

What nice boxes. I hope you will enjoy the inks, and I look forward to whatever experiences you choose to share with the rest of us.

I'm waiting for samples of:

Taccia AO, Cha Brown, Ebi and Sharaku Kurocha;

Robert Oster Caffé Crema, Dragon's Night, Golden Brown, Hot Pink and Ng Special '16;

Montegrappa Coffee Brown and Fuchsia;

Stipula Deep Blue, Fading Grey and Sepia;

Papier Plume New Orleans Collection Calle Real and Mardi Gras;

Kobe #3, 9, 25, 29, 32, 37, 40, 41, 51, 52, 56, 62, and 71;

L'Artisan Pastellier Callifolio Bleu Méditerranée, Ultramarine and Violet; Classiques Bleu, Fuchsia, Marron Brown and Violette; and

P.W. Akkerman #1, 3, 5, 11, 12, 16, 23, 29 and Dutch Masters #1 and 11.

I might get Papier Plume Regular inks Burgundy, Forget-me-not, Maroon, Midnight Blue, Pecan, Sepia and Violet in my next batch. I'm just not sure how different they are than L'Artisan Pastellier inks. I read that their inks are made in New Orleans, but I've also read that the inks are bottled in New Orleans but that the inks come from a French ink maker. I don't know which one though (Herbin or L'AP perhaps?) - or even if it's true. Apparently, all these three share a pastel-iness to them.

But again, this is hearsay - or readsay. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet!
