What ink(s) are you waiting for in the mail?

Yay!

Much to my surprise, my ink arrived today. Ordered online at 9pm on Tuesday night from The Writing Desk and when we came back from walking our dog this morning (Friday) the package was sitting on the doorstep waiting for me! I'm amazed at the speed given the current Covid-19 situation.

Kudos to The Writing Desk and the Royal Mail. :notworthy1:

Now to decide what colour goes where!

All by The Birmingham Pen Company.

Some of those sound new! But the last time I looked at their website they seemed to be out of nearly everything (particularly what I wanted -- full bottles of Truss Blue and Persian Copper :().

The KWZ #5 Blue, I expected it to darken after some time. But in 24 hours the colour has not changed.

I put it in a Moonman M600S, that gives a nice, fine line on Rhodia paper. Wrote some text, added some more after said 24 hours - colour is almost the same.

I hope it stays that way, because I like it as it is now: a non-obtrusive, somewhat chalky darker blue with a hint of teal in it. Nice!

Same pen on more absorbing paper, there is some darkening with time, but not so very much.

Darkening is more apparent with wetter, thicker lines though. I tried a dip pen that puts down a lot of ink, and that dries to almost blackish blue.

I got a email from them that 3 of their inks that I was curious about were back in rotation, and I scrambled to pick them up! One was free since I didn't jump on it immediately, which worked out in my favor!

The lower numbers, like #2 and #3, have perceptible color shifts as they cure. But the #5 is similar to the IG Turquoise in that it retains its original hue to a greater extent (it varies a little according to the paper). Konrad makes such great inks!

IG Turquoise changes more or less depending on how much of it is put down. With my wetter writers, it changes dramatically but very slowly. With dry pens and fine lines, it doesn't change as much. I would give that ink a couple weeks to see its final appearance. It's my slowest changing IG ink. Incidentally, I don't care for its initial hue, but I love the final look. So it's always a bit disappointing that it takes so long to transform.

I must be going through a brown phase. I think that's because I have established favorites (and first reserves!) in most of the color areas now, but brown covers such a huge range (broader than greys for sure and possibly -?- broader than greens, which have been my main rabbit hole so far?!). Oh well, everything on the way is from De Atramentis (from whom I have five browns already!):
Havanna Brown - I had a sample already and it's a lovely yellow brown (without tending green).
Java Brown - I also had a sample and in my head I filed it under Taupe, but I recently compared it with (the wonderful) R&K Sepia and it's a lovely warm pink brown in comparison. Great - I have Red-Browns, Orange-Browns, Yellow-Browns and, my favorites, Greenish-Browns but a Brown Pink is a new one for me (although I know KWZ make such a thing).

Bahama Brown is my mystery item - possibly another tobacco = greenish brown? Can't have too many of those!

Also thrown in are samples of: Yellow Ochre (looks similar to the Diamine Ochre?), Old Gold, Topaz Gold and the Apricot that always looks so appealing.
If there's any surprises or revelations I'll add them to the "Inky TOD Brown" thread.

I went through a major Brown phase not long ago! Now I'm going through murky turquoise phase :D

Hi,

reordered a bottle of ESSRI, my most used ink.

I'm thankful that such precious old style blue-black ig ink is still made - a perfect match to my vintage Swan pens...

Best

What were your favorites?

How about given the following categories:

Reddish Brown (Russet)

Pinkish Brown

Orange Brown

Yellow Brown

Greenish Brown

Taupe (Grey Brown)

Purplish Brown

?

(Maybe belongs on the Brown thread!)

I was playing with Terre De Feu again yesterday. There is the most beautiful coral undertone, but I haven't found a pen yet that brings this out!

Indeed I should find the Browns thread. I've tried so many, at least 15! My most favorite is GvFC Hazelnut Brown, followed by J. Herbin Lie de The. Generally red-orange-browns are my favorite, as opposed to green-yellow browns.

Yes. I know the dangers

Yes. I plan on trying them anyway

Know the best way to guarantee someone wants to do something? Tell them they can’t.

After years of hearing about them and there being ZERO pictures of what they look like, i bit the bullet and bought one of each today. I NEED to know what they looked like! I need to know what a “deep and rich” (p51 ink marketing http://www.hjort.it/pennor/artiklar/parker51_eng.html ) Or a “super brilliant” (superchrome marketing term) ink looked like 70 years ago.

And then of course will begin the search for today’s (assumedly) safer ink with the closest colour match :)

A bottle of superchrome turquoise is next up (yes there are pictures of it but i want to see for myself)

No celluloid pens will be harmed i promise. I only own one and it’s a Sheaffer balance, not gonna cross brands like that! :P

I am well aware of WHY these inks were discontinued and I do not intend long term use of them. This is just for a little fun :)

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Still waiting on the samples and added 4 bottles to the list:

KWZ Azure #5

Diamine Midnight

Diamine Ochre

Diamine Coral

Spent FOREVER choosing a KWZ to blind bottle as I was looking for a real, daily driver for my favourite pens. A nice blue was the only sensible way to go in the end, fingers crossed it's not too light. Eeeep.

Also ordered a Colorverse Nebula Tomoe River notebook about 6 minutes after I found out they existed. Absolutely ploughing through my GLP notebook during this lockdown.

I feel like the paper companies are gonna be making a killing in the next little while...

May your inks arrive swiftly.
