What ink(s) are you waiting for in the mail?

I ordered the inks from Nemosine that are made in England. I ordered Imperial Purple and Prussian Blue. It seems like Diamine is the source of these inks. You get 60ml for $5.99.

I could get an 80ml bottle of Diamine ink (in those colours) for £4.92 — which is about US$6.31 when I checked on XE.com just now — ex VAT (and before shipping) from Cult Pens any day of the week, before applying 10% discounts available from time to time.

Nemosine doesn't offer free shipping (past a certain threshold amount per order) to everyone, but Cult Pens does.

So, unfortunately I must conclude Nemosine's offer just isn't very competitive for the majority of fountain pen users today, except perhaps on its home ground in the USA for those made-in-UK inks.

...

I'm umming and ahing about ordering three (Australian) Standard Bindery inks, as well as R&K Salix and Scabiosa, from LCdC in the Netherlands at the moment. Altogether, they would just top up an order past the free international shipping threshold for me, for a currently-on-special-sale pen that I don't need. Hmmm.

Ive never heard of XE.com. Oh, yes I have. Its the currency converter.

I did add the ink to get to the free shipping. I wanted more of their stub nibs, and also got the Knox Plato pens. It was an impulsive purchase.

Grabbed three of the new Taccia Hokusai inks that really caught my eye: Sabimidori, Benitsuchi, and Fukakihanada. Lovely looking inks and I adore those woodblock printings that they put on the packaging. Really striking.

Thought it was time I branched out from blue inks so awaiting with eager anticipation the following Diamine inks:

  • Syrah
  • Aurora Borealis
  • Ancient Copper

and, er, ....

  • Oxford Blue

:lticaptd:

I really like Oxford Blue, BTW. Ancient Copper was okay, but really bad for gunk buildup on the nib. The other two I haven't tried.

Thanks for the tip-off, I’ll keep the Ancient Copper away from my P61s, all capillary fillers, and try it out in a 51 or 45. Actually, a 45 or my Cross might be the most sensible as they have converters which makes colour changing easier but since when has sensible come into it? :D

A lot of brown and orange inks tend to get buildup on the nibs -- there's nothing actually wrong (like SITB) but it's an annoyance and may impede the flow a little bit from nib creep. But yeah, putting something like that into a 61 doesn't sound like a good plan; of course I don't think putting any really saturated ink in to any of MY 61s is a good idea, either -- but I have had good luck with one of the De Atramentis pinks. I want to say it was Apple Blossom (which is scented, but really light and not overpowering an odor -- unlike Patchouli, which just smelled awful, and not a bit like patchouli really smells like).

Two of my four "inked" 61s for some reason have the same ink, dcwaites' Faux Penman Sapphire #9 (a mix of Diamine's Majestic Blue and Sapphire Blue) and the third has Quink Blue Black simply because I had a bottle at work when the pen arrived and wanted to try it (the pen) there and then!

The fourth 61 is "inked" with water which is slowly washing out whatever blue was in it when it arrived, I'm almost there now (it's been a long time!), as after only a few words, the writing gets too pale to read. So it will be a candidate for one of the new colours (other than Ancient Copper). I'm not expected my new ink this side of Easter (curses!) so will do a bit of research on FPN while I'm waiting as to which would be best out of the other three inks.

Has just occurred to me that research may not be advisable as I might come across more ink to buy - but what is life without danger!

Edited for poor grammar!

Four bottles of Hero 232, eight bottles of Hero 234. Sent by ePacket from China, tracking shows (sorta understandably) no movement at the transit depot since 14 March. Most likely treated as low priority articles queued up for available space on international cargo flights, if any are still operating out of Shenzhen at this time.
