Plastic inner cap (the lining) but the cap itself is sterling silver that's gold plated.

I typically hate to revive old threads, but this one is worthy!

 

I own the 450 in green and out of my entire collection of above 100 fountain pens it is most definitely "memorable"!

 

I don't believe there is a better maker of fine writing instruments than Pelikan! I will continue to pursue them as additions to my collection and will never cease to be amazed at their quality and functionality! In my experience they just do not get any better than this one!
