Pelikan Majesty Black Silver

Recommended Posts

Yesterday we did a review of this huge fountain and we were impressed. Its size is 136mm and its weight is 58.8gr (empty).

Is made of sterling silver and black color of your cap is finished with "piano lacquer".

Access to the system load by removing a section of the body, allowing the viewing of the deposition of ink very clearly.

Sure you like it.

Wow, I never really liked the majesty series, but on this pictures it looks really elegant and nice.

Thanks for the review.

I especially like the nib. I'd love to see comparison size pictures between the Majesty and the other Souveran pens. Both for the overall size and the nib.

Ciao,

Richard Binder's site?

Richard shows them uncapped (which is nice for the nib) and I suppose that the Majesty is posting way closer to the barrel than the other Souveran. I'd like to see the comparison on capped pens.

About the nib: on Richard's site looks like the Majesty has an M600 nib in size, but then nothing is mentioned in the nib interchangeability chart...

Cheers,

Nice. You could probably use it as a truncheon at that weight!

In my opinion, the Majesty series is a new designed toy from Pelikan. It comes with the converter but has the capacity of a piston filler. It also has a sterling silver body which is resistance to tarnishing. Another nice product from Pelikan. :)

Other pens available for sale:

Pelikan : Keep a watchout here, M805 FPs, M400 and M405 FPs,

I must say this is a very impressive pen. I love the cap. I had only seen the one with the silver cap and the gold bands. I never liked that one but this one is very nice.

Do we know when this is available and the likely cost? Wasn't too keen on the original Majesty but this pen looks quite striking.

Cheers,

Can't oblige with pics but length capped is 136 mm, uncapped 125 mm. Nib is different in shape, broad shouldered with short tines, not like other Pelikan nibs. I suppose M600 nibs should fit but am not sure.

Available now, at a slightly lower price than the all-silver Majesty. RRP should be around 1100 Euros, so street price between 800 and 900 Euros if you can find them (according to Richard Binder $1350 RRP, $1015 from him for the all-silver version).

you are correct in stating it's a new toy, but the 'inner working' is designed like a M600 FP. The silver 'cover' enlarges the instrument to the total size of an M800 (or bigger) pen, but there is still a M600 inside (thus the nib is close to the size of the M600 one). It's a strange solution, but still much better than a captive converter. Probably they were looking for a pen large in size but for some reason simply wrapping s sheet of silver around a standard m800 wasn't enough (probably the elaborated carvings/flutes were too deep/thick to fit in the wall thickness of a 'layered' m800, or would have made the final pen too large). Basically they are fitting an entire M600 pen as a fixed (but accessible in some way) converter. Advantages: it's a very geeky toy, there is no window interrupting the design but the ink level is easily checked simply unscrewing the silver sleeve, an M600 is the best 'converter' you can dream of, the sleeve can support every elaborated carving/variation in the future. Disadvantages: the resulting nib is still an M600 nib (even if somewhat enlarged) making for a slightly unbalanced design (the pen appears big for the nib), it's a little heavy, it's a little complicated, and it's expensive. Irrationally, I like it.

I don't understand.

They make a cap of silver, a precious metal, then they cover the silver with cheap black paint?

I don't understand.

YMMV

I have the same doubts. Since this model M7005 has a lower price than the all silver M7000, the cap probably isn't silver but painted brass.

I must say the combination looks better than the original version but the black cap may be very easily scratched. This "piano lacquer" may be durable but if it shows visible signs of use you cannot simply buff them out.

Actually the pen is Piston Fill....no converters or cartridges allowed.

And It is a bit resistant to both scratches and tarnish because while it is silver it is plated with platinum...a much harder precious metal.
