What exactly is a fineliner?

I'm considering a Starwalker fineliner/RB. What exactly is a fineliner?

Is it a hard felt tip?

Do you like writing with it?

What colors are available? One line width?

Longevity and cost of the refills?

Cheers

Yes, hard felt tip. Similar to the Cross fineliner.

And I think it comes in all colors as long as they are BLACK!!!!

I have the Starwalker fineliner. A fineliner has a hard felt tip. They wear down to your writing style really fast, so you will always have to write with the pen in your hand the same way. They write really smooth. MontBlanc offers fineliner refills in Black or Blue. I prefer blue, but that's because I have the Cool Blue. They last pretty long, and if you buy the bulk pack of 10 from MontBlanc, they are pretty cheap. I definitely recommend it!

Aurora Optima Burgundy Celluloid

MontBlanc 149

MontBlanc Starwalker Cool Blue

MontBlanc 144

Lamy 2000

and about 30 other pens

I thought that the fineliner refills also come in blue, though I may be wrong. This is my favourite non-FP style pen, because of how softly it presses upon the paper and how easily the ink comes out. They also remind me of artist pens and technical pens, which I have been using all my life. My only problem with MB fineliners, is that they are not waterproof.

I have the Scenium, long with the BP which I cannot use.

Sounds intriquing, especially since I understand that one can use either fineliner or rollerball refills.

Is the line width narrow, comparable to a fp fine or medium?

It puts down a crispish Fine line. Very flattering to one's handwriting, I might add.

BTW -- I just double-checked and they do come in blue in addition to black. The blue is a royal blue.
