A Montblanc Collectible Item

niksch

Recommended Posts

I found this object recently and it's pretty neat. Besides the obvious porcelain cat and pen display, can someone help me out with what this really is, timeframe of production, rarity or unusualness? It's my 204 tailed pen in the photo, BTW.

Thanks, Eric

Eric, that's a nice pen rest you've got there!

First time I've seen one of those,so I couldn't say much about it,except that it might

have been made sometime in the `50's to `60's. I think the font on the base might

be a clue. The letter "A" has the triangle in it so often seen in the name during that

time period. Might it have been some sort of promotional item or display item found

in a pen store?

Dear Eric,

yours is the 3rd one I have seen in a few years. Read about it on the net some years ago and had been on the lookout since, supposedly a store display from the 50s-60s.

The first was from an auction in UK about 2 years ago. Recently another came up for auction but was out of my budget.

If I do come across more info I'll post it.

Stay well,

Neat-o! :) I wonder if the recessed part on the side (between the star and the logotype) serves some purpose?

Very nice Eric.

As I am getting more into MB I have a desire to obtain some MB ephemera, especially colorful vintage posters or something like that for the desk.

First MB thing I've seen in a while that I really like! Very cool.

Congratulations Eric, it is a rare item!

Yes, the "cat" is a window/shop display made within the 50th. And there was an "Armor" as well which I try to get for years.

I have two of these cats and might sell one of it ...

Thanks Axel, and all the rest of you. I'm delighted with this item which was found for me by a distant cousin, on accident, somewhere in the European Union.

Axel, when you say armor, do you mean a shield or a suit of armor for a knight?

Very nice piece Eric.

In addition to the font, the star logo is a bit different from contemporary renderings. The star points look a bit shorter and a bit sharper. The whole look of this star is closer to the badge emblem used by county sheriffs in the United States.

The MontBlanc stores have a lot of different displays, this might have been some form of display for some pen at some time.
