For your consideration is an oversized Waterman One Hundred Year Pen in Burgundy Ribbed lucite.

A super example of the First Year pen from 1939. This pen was touted as being the world's first lucite pen in glossy advertisments paid for by Waterman in December of 1939 as they tried to tap into the christmas sales market.

For me, this is one of THE definitive pens in the fountain pen pantheon. Its classic modern art deco looks, colour and general aesthetic single the First Year pen out as a work of classic form.

Sadly, while lucite was a fantastic new material to use in pen manufacture due to its luminescence, it was also prone to cracking and crazing, perhaps due to quality control issues. Most 100 year pens you see these days have cracks in the cap lip or elsewhere. This pen has a clean cap without cracks anywhere. There are some light signs of crazing in the cap and a couple of pin pricks in the gold bands, but so trivial by comparison with other examples that abound that I only mention it for the sake of completeness.

The 14kt gold nib is the original Waterman Hundred Year and is marked accordingly. It has a fexible writing line with an extra fine point.

I'm looking for $1,300 for this super example. You will probably not see another one as clean, without cracks, for a very long time.

I've never seen one in such great condition.

I wish I had the funds for this one :crybaby:

Cheers,

Hi there.

Me neither otherwise my price would be much lower... but there is always a premium for top quality examples.

Put another way, you get what you pay for...

Best wishes

MG
