I was in a pen store, they were selling the Holly pen. The price is EUR 75. It is a brand new one, not writen before. I think it has a 23k nib. Is this a good price? And can someone tell me more about this pen?

It was a special holiday edition Imperial (for some reason 1999 sticks in my mind).

They also came in sets with a indentical BP. Just the FP went recently (do a search in the Marketplace on Imperial)<in the past 2 weeks> for IIRC, around $65.

You probably don't want to know this, but I DO know of a certain FPNer who happened to have snagged a rather poorly

titled NOS FP and BP pen SET on The Bay in the past 3 weeks for around $35 shipped. And no, it wasn't me but a FPNer sista.

The nib is 23 kt gold PLATED.

IMO, the Imperial is a Very Nice writer.

"1990" or "1996" was printed on the cap. It was a very funny pen. But the quality looks quite poor. I also didn't knew it is 23kt plated. Thanks for the comment.

Do you think it's a collectible item?

The Holly Pen and Pencil was dated 1996 on the pens and on the box that they came in. Not a bad writer at all. My wife will use the Holly pen and also the previous edition pen at Christmas time. (Can you say red ink in one, and green ink in the other? Both came in a nice box, the 1995 Snow pen was all metal, based on the Prelude pen, if I remember correctly. The Snow pen shows up on eBay rarely, but the Holly comes around fairly often, especially (I think) a few months before Christmas.

Heres a couple photos with the ballpoint pen and the Holly Box.

I thought the Snow Pen edition was 1997 but my memory could be fuzzy. That one is a good quality pen. You're right about the Holly Pen being lower quality IMO. It's basically the Imperial, which is a lesser quality but collectible pen over the years, derived from the 1960's Imperials.

Personally, I enjoy firing up both my Christmas SE pens, the Holly and Snow pens, to write out Christmas cards in red and green ink, respectively. Puts me in the holiday spirit. They do write well.

I stand corrected. You are right, the Snow pen set was 1997. I just took a look at the wife's set that sits in the Snow Box until Christmas, 1997.

Thanks for the help

I have one and like it very much. I don't know what a good price would be for it. I got mine at a discount store (Tuesday Morning) in 2000. It writes a medium line. The nib on mine is very smooth. It is a fairly lightweight pen. It is not one of my most slender pens, but the barrel is much more slender than that of a Parker 51. It is a Triumph Imperial along the Deluxe line, if I have it right. Here's a link to info: http://www.penhero.com/PenGallery/Sheaffer...mphImperial.htm

Perhaps someone else can tell you more.

I'm glad I have mine.

I, too, bring out my Truimph Hollies during Christmas for card greetings writing.

I bought mine in 1997 when a number of pen stores in the USA were having sales on these pens.

From what I understand the hardest to find is the rollerball. The one in the centre.

It's a beautiful pen and I highly recommend it. I've used mine every Christmas since 1996. Yes, the Prelude "Snow Pen" came out in '97, and then the series petered out thanks to the Bic folks.

I like the idea of an AFFORDABLE "Special Edition" pen. This one cost around $89 I believe. Well worth it. Every year I get admiring comments on it.

Hello Sheaffer Lovers from DocNib's PenEmporium! Speaking of holiday items, do any of you remember the Limited Edition Christmas prints that Sheaffer came out with in the late-1990's (or was it 2000?)? I've had a portfolio of 11 of these prints stashed away in a closet since they came out, but can't remember their issue date or find any of my info on them (I have a dealer spec sheet somewhere, but can't find it!).

I have 4-different themes:

1) "Winter Evening" by John Newton Howitt, 1945 (#'s 720/2000 & 740/2000)

2) "Winter Outing" by Frederic Mizen, 1945 (#'s 101/2000, 113/2000 & 132/2000)

3) "Letters To Home" by Clarence Coles Phillips, 1920 (#'s 601/2000, 604/2000 & 617/2000)

4) "Family" by William Andrew Loomis, 1931 (#'s 731/2000, 733/2000, 735/2000)

Does anybody have the images they can post or know of a website that I can link them to? They're too big a format for me to photograph & post without losing some of the true color & detail (22.5" X 29"). I don't remember how many different images were in the series, so if you know of others please post that too.

THANKS!

DOC

Tuesday morning pen here too. Probably paid $15 for it in box. Nice pen but the 'enamel' is a little off.

(bleep), you got a great price on yours. Mine was more. I was wondering if they'd get put on clearance, but they only had a couple left.

One of the vendors at the Atlanta pen show had many caps and barrels for the Holly pen. It was odd seeing so many pieces, without the rest of the pen.

May you have pens you enjoy, with plenty of paper and ink. :)

  • 4 years later...

I have a couple of the 1996 "Holly" pens: the original price was $95. They are wonderful writers and I enjoy using them around Christmas. They are light, but well balanced. I see no loss of plating, after all these years the pen still looks like new.
