My first Estie

You'll need a new J bar, and you should replace the sac to be safe, as long as you have the pen open. Nice deal, though!

First Estie ballpoint is en route! I know I'll have to commit various sorts of major surgery to be able to ever use it as one, but I don't care. It's there to complete the set; if I were willing to use a ballpoint, I would hardly be part of this forum. :D

I just got my very first Esterbrook...a J model. I read somewhere that this was the largest of the series however it seems to be about the size of a Pelikan 200/400. Is that correct. Don't get me wrong, I love the little guy but it is small.

Nice!
For reference, green J next to m400. A couple mm longer than the m400, and a little thicker.

Sweet! And thanks for the photo. Now that I have written with it (for 50 bucks) I see no reason to get a 200 or 400. Nice pen.

Yesss, that's the point. I always be really cautious when I use m400, but with Esties I am totally relaxed. You know what I mean. :)

Well, the ballpoint turned out to be a mis-identified mechanical pencil, but the seller was willing to rebate back enough to make me willing to keep them.

The FP is a full J Series, flat-bottom with a three-stripe jewel on the cap, my first one of those, so it's still a first Estie after a fashion.

Pics when I get 'em.

First Icicle. There is an antique store in Verona, Virginia (The Factory) and the woman there was selling standard J's and LJ's for $20 and had a huge selection of pastels (didn't see the prices). I picked up a gorgeous green icicle with a "Broad" nib (no number) for $48 including tax, and I'm having fun with it. The nib is super smooth and wet with R&K Leipzig Schwarz ink in it.

I'm new to Esterbrook but really love the pen I recently purchased! She's inked with De Atramentis Silver Grey right now. She's destined for J. Herbin Moondust Purple, though, once I'm done testing all my grey ink samples.

One more reason to love Esties - I finally got that elusive 9128 extra fine flex nib, in a black SJ.

The problem? I'm out of sacs and can't afford to get more until I get paid later this month.

The solution? Just put the nib in a working pen (for now a black LJ, though it may find more permanent housing in my desk pen). Whoever came up with Esterbrook's exchangeable nib system, thank you!

The only problem I'm having with it is that the flow is not steady. Any suggestions? It's been well and truly soaked and flushed, so I know the nib itself is clean, and the pen it's in has never given dissatisfaction before.

Well, looks like I'm joining the club. I received my first Esterbrook today, a silver J, restored and ready to write. And wow, does it ever write! I inked it up with Montblanc Royal Blue and grabbed my trusty dot pad and it truly glides across the page. It boggles my mind how something 70 years old or so can not only look practically brand new, and work so extraordinarily well to boot.

This is not my first Esterbrook, but I only started collecting (amassing) them at the end of June.

This is my newest addition.

Edit: The photo has horrible color- this pen is a very lovely, light green/blue color. It looks so dark in the photo. I will try to take a better picture.

Now that's a beautiful Esterbrook.

Finally nailed the ballpoint! It's a lovely gray, and came with a not-quite-matching gray J, and a green SJ. Photos when I can get some decent ones. :)
