My first Estie

Rob G

Recommended Posts

I got my first Estie yesterday- a peachy pink CH model. I'm interested in the version that's more of a true pink- but I'll be on the hunt. Mine needs a new sac but the nib is in good shape. I can see this being the start of a very real problem

Very pretty.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

  • 2 weeks later...

My first Estie arrived today and I now completely understand what all the fuss is about! I bought this beauty on a whim and couldn't be much happier. The 2312 nib is glorious, and the deep gray swirling body is beautiful! I only wish the pen were a bit larger and thicker (mine is the LJ body).

Very pretty pen and even prettier handwriting; italics just make nice handwriting look even better. Now you just need a J to put it in!

My first Estie pencil is on its way! Woot! Pics when it arrives!

Cool. I've got three now - 2 beaters and one nice one (cost me all of $3) with an insurance company name imprinted. I also just got a ballpoint that I will need to repair (already read the threads here on it).

You need to have pencils to go with those pens!

I've still yet to secure a worthy Esterbrook (having made some poor decisions) since I joined this community a year ago. Seen some really nice ones, and I only want one, but always outbid or seller won't sell to me (for a variety of reasons) or the shipping is criminally high or I don't know enough to take a plunge. Bit depressing in a way.

Beginning to wonder if I have displeased the pen gods at some point and this is my penance. Guess my karma must be at an all time record negative level. :(

At least there are other makes of pen out there for the likes of me.

'Tis true. I got myself hooked a few months ago, and ever since then I've acquired a bunch of Esties, found ten nibs (literally found them...they were in a box headed for the dumpster), replaced several sacs, taught myself to turn any nib I don't like into a cursive italic, and my Esties are now my go-to pens. One of these days I'll get around to posting about my first Estie (...er, I think I remember which one it was rolleyes.gif), but for now I'm having too much fun!

What is your main equipment to turn them? I would like to do an experiment with one oblique nib for Esterbrook ($15) and turn it into a stub. I just want to experiment.

Yeah, the ultimate goal is at least one matched set of FP, pencil and BP -- not really picky which color, either.

I have recently purchased my first Estie but it has been hung up in shipping for some reason :(

A friend found a great seller on Etsy that refurbishes vintage 1940s Esterbrooks and the price is quite good.

Mine is an LJ and I can not wait to fill it and start writting.

You can visit the sellers Etsy page here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/DrickerWoodworking?ref=l2-shopheader-name

LOL, I've already started looking at getting another. I think a J in green will be next.
