Vintage Pelikan 300...

I have a vintage Pelikan which is the size of a 400, but has a cap imprinted '140'. I had assumed that it was a 400 with the wrong cap, but could it be that it is a 300? Should '300' be imprinted on the body or cap?

This from www.ruettinger-web.de:

"Pens model 300 were only produced for export. The shape of this model is exact like the model 140, but the size is the same as the model 400."

from top to bottom: 400NN - 400N - 400 - 300 - 140

My 300s don't have an engraved cap ring, just plain like an early 400. Maybe some are marked 300. Your cap is most likely from a 140 as you thought -- those 300 caps are pretty scarce! They are 51 mm long without the derby (140s are about 48mm) and I've seen them with two vent holes.

I agree with Doug. Reading the Pelikan book there is no hint of the 140 name as being on the 300 cap. And the size is different. And the 300 should have "export" imprinted on the lower barrel.

However, as owner of a pen which is exactly as described by "OneThousand" (400NN body and 140 cap), I'd like to add that this misplacement is pretty common on ebay...

I arrived late to this thread through a search for information on the Pelikan 300. Mine is indeed stamped "Pelikan 300" 3 times around the cap band and "Pelikan 300 Gunther Wagner Germany" around the bottom of the barrel. The underside of the clip is stamped with the letter F and below that a K in a circle. The word export is nowhere to be found on the pen.

Does anybody know anything more about this pen? I never hear anything about this model. It's my favorite of the 10 or so Pelikans I have owned.

/Woody

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
