I've been thinking about a theme/idea for the fellowship pen. What about some haiku in a script on the barrel of the pen. (Kind of like Jopen's custom pen, or any of the haiku pens out there). The fellowship pen would ONLY have the haiku (in a kanji like script) keeping it simple (and affordable I guess). We'd have to figure out a nice haiku the somehow fits in the keywords I think of when I think Danitrio Fellowship.

Some keywords ideas I think of: obsessive, creative, creation, original, art, people

Just some thoughts.

Fabulous idea!

Why, sometimes I'd like to take a switchblade and a peppermint and a Cadillac and throw it all in a fire.

I also like the Haiku idea and have it written on cursive form to make it "flowy" As for Haiku, I would leav it to the artist to pick one something about friendship would be nice.

Danitrio will have conversation with their artist soon after their "Golden Week" in April... so Kimy, I'll have better idea regarding your pen after their big Golden Week. Which means we need to decide also on a background urushi: Tamenuri, Tame-midori.... or dare I say have them try something new just for us... maybe something like tame-murasaki (as in deep purple), not sure if this is even possible.

I just assume make 50 pens in case some other owners wanted to purchase later. A general fund will be established and part of proceed donated to this fund. This fund can be used to help reduce the cost of Santa Barbara meet, or dare I say... trips to Japan etc. I have opened an ING orange savings account on line and donated $200 to this account to get us started.

All future sales (starting this Saturday Pen Posse meet) to holders of these 50 pens, part of small profit I made will be donated to this fund. Holder of these 50 pens will get end of the year statements as to how much we have, revenue and expenditure etc. So, if you decided to sell your pens to someone else, you will need to let me know who the new owner is and the financial information will be forward to them the following fisical year. Tax on this is minmum, so I'll take care of it to make thing simple. Any owner is also welcome to contribute, BUT ABSOLUTELY NOT MANDATORY. Sorry donation is NOT tax deductible. LOL.

So, please let me hear your thoughts. The 50 pens will be to make them as affordable as possible, but unique enough so folks will want to own one and use one.

Best,

Kevin

Good idea... this Fellowship virus variant is developing faaast!!!

One thing, Kevin... ASK THE ARTIST WHICH IS THE WORD that he will write... cursive Haiku translations afterwards may take time ... :ltcapd:

Call it what you like, but yesterday night, in bed, I was thinking in something, now I know it may be called tame-murasaki !!!

Was thinking in Tamenuri, as it is spectacular in an octagon, with so many ridges for rich contrast, leaving in second place Tame-midori, very nice, but perhaps not for everyones taste... but something like purple or shobo as base was something that keept hooked in my immagination before sleeping... (I'm not alooone in my mental mess!!!)

I like the haiku idea, maybe in Gyousho (semi-cursive) script. It would be interesting to have a new color tamenuri.

This is so exciting!

Since this is a custom club pen, I'd prefer a unique color to raise awareness to the club's intent. With Kevin contributing so much to the commission of the product and helping establish the club, I think a color totally unique to the market would be great and exclusive.

I had a couple Omas club pens and although in resin, they too had some fantastic colors that was only commissioned for the club. Here's one in a unique color and Guilloche'd pattern as well:

I'm really excited about a shorter faceted pen with cursive Haiku!! Build it already! :roflmho:

The Haiku sounds nice, especially if it is about friendship. I think friendship is the greatest gift and treasure one can ever receive and have in their lives. Maybe the artist can add a small embellishment here and there as they see fit to compliment the Haiku.

A new urushi would be fun. I like the purple idea. As I'd mentioned before, though, I'd be thrilled with any of the urushi finishes we are accustomed to now. I'm wondering, would we maybe be able to have our names translated to kanji on request? There is no way I'd be selling this pen or forwarding it on to another (unless by inheritance).

Good suggestion on the Haiku, Chris. It fits, it fits very well.

edit: whoa, Mac! That orange is really bright. Um, hm. Orange... hm. Let's let the artist surprise us. I'll go with the artist's choice, no matter the color. If it turns out that bright, I may have to wear shades when using the pen at midnight during a new moon.

That is really bright...

A haiku about writing could be interesting, writing a letter or poem

something like

The Poet Saigyo

Would have written a poem

Even for the woman

Washing potatoes.

I love the idea of having a unique color. My vote is for deep purple.

The Fellowship pen was a brilliant idea and I think it will further the Danitrio Fellowship (aka group of broke individuals).

The discussions about what the 'pen' should look like brings back memories of a few years ago on Knifeforums. The 'In the Kitchen' subforum got together with Koki Iwahara of Japanese Chef Knife.com, and Mr. Ichiro Hattori to create a series of knives. The knives were designed by the forum members and results are pretty spectacular.

You check out the results here.

I have only one of Kevin's gorgeous Danitrios: a Wakasa-nuri Densho. Would love to be considered the poor country cousin to all you other Danitrio collectors. Not sure I could buy a special edition pen, but I sure would drool over it the way I always do when I see Winedoc's pens.

These are the times that try men's souls. :yikes: I think it is great how the Fellowship list has grown.

I am definitely in on the pen. I will chime in that I like the idea of Haiku on the first(?) Fellowship pen. Perhaps "Fellowship" could even be written on the pen.

As for the pen's color, I am completely flexible. I don't think I want something in a puke lime green, but I don't think anyone else does either.

Thanks so much, Kevin, for this wonderful idea. Both you and the responsive Danitrio executives are part of why I like Danitrio pens. Of course, excellent quality products don't hurt either.

OK, I have told them... Octagon (smaller), clipless, Basho, happiness, Haiku, and some exotic urushi and let the artist run with it. We will try to maket this as affordable as possible as long as quality does not suffer! OK, we'll see what they come up with :-)

Kevin, is it a big deal to have a clip added after the fact? I love the idea behind this pen, but I want my next Danitrio to have a clip (I sold the one of my 3 that that had a clip-a Densho).

I'm just wondering if this is the kind of thing they do with existing pens (Put a slit in the cap, slide the clip in, and screw it down).

Any idea?
