Hello people Quite by chance I came across a pen store that has a new old stock TROPEN and he is asking $130 for it. I had never heard about this brand and I do not know the model name (I include a photo instead) and my search online was not very fruitful except for a thread on this site. What is your experience with it? I only care about its writing I am not a collector. Is it worth $130 (USD)? thanks in advance PS. It is brand new in the box never sold

Hopefully my educated guess is correct in attributing this to Tropen, and thus I'm posting in the correct place! Got this given to me at Christmas, and finally got around to posting some pics in the hopes that someone can tell me something about it. The cap, I suspect is from a Waterman (and pretty beaten up at that), but the rest of the pen appears to be in mint condition. Feels surprisingly well-built, the nib being the only thing that lets it down a little; it's one of those pinched together tips. Only markings are the "Cadillac" on the barrel, and "Dauer Feder 1" on the nib (which is what lead me here to Other European brands). Syringe filler (is that the correct term in this instance?), and funky inlaid metal design on the hood. I know its value is likely the square root of zero, but I haven't quite been able to bring myself to ink it up yet; it's so clean and shiny! If anyone can tell me anything at all, I'd be fascinated to know. Thank you muchly. Cheers, Al

Short version: Do any of you fine ladies or gentlemen know how to safely remove the piston assembly of a mid-50s (I'm guessing) Tropen Scholar? Unscrew? Friction fit? Sealed for all eternity and I'm all out of luck? Longer version: This is asked more in hope than expectation - searches found a couple of threads where this was asked and not answered, but hey, third time lucky... I have recently acquired a Tropen Scholar piston filler, and despite early happiness that the thing was taking up ink like a thirsty camel at an oasis, my Serenity Blue thumb and forefinger have established that it is, in fact, leaking ink behind the piston and, joy, into the blind cap. Now it may well be that I can't acquire or adapt a solution to solve this, but I'm pretty sure I can't get anywhere unless I can remove the piston assembly to actually get at it. It looks like it must be screwed in, but some gentle application of heat and a suitably padded Bionic Wrench didn't seem to be getting anywhere, and obviously I'm reluctant to push it when I don't even know if that's actually how it's fitted. Any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers, Al
