Information Appreciated On Antique Dip Pen/propelling Pencil.
coldavo posted a topic in Fountain & Dip Pens - First Stop
Hi All, I have a nice antique dip pen and pencil combination which consists of a metal tube enclosing two sliding mechanisms which eject a dipping pen from one end and a propelling pencil from the other. The tube, which is possibly brass (?), is 105mm long when fully closed, 140mm with the pen extended and 165mm with both pen and pencil fully out. There are no markings on the body but the nib is stamped "The Professional Pen". The nib originally had a gold coloured plating which has mainly worn off and, where it has, a fair degree of corrosion is present. The following link shows a high quality Mordan pen/pencil combination which dates to 1825. http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/69693-1825-sampson-mordan-dip-pen-and-pencil The reason for showing the link is that the Mordan combination is very similar to mine (except for the silver, the value, etc). The link would possibly give a good earliest date for my item and surely it would be no later than Edwardian. Thus we have a period of about 85 years to choose from. I am hoping for an estimate to its age and also hopeful for information as to the manufacturer (is "The Professional Pen" the name of the pen or of the nib?). can anyone please help. All the best, Col .-
