Gaviota Gigante (Reposted In The Mabie Todd Section)
fountainpen51 posted a topic in Mabie Todd Research/Special Interest Forum/Group
This seems a little known brand and I wanted to present it. It is called Gaviota Gigante and is a sub-brand of Swan in Spain. Here some photos. It is a size # 8, the nib that is next is a Waterman Hundred Years # 8 -
My friend has given me a Swan Pen made by Mabie, Todd & Co., to see if it can be repaired. It came with a ziplock bag of pieces, so I knew that the lever filler was broken. The lever no longer stays hooked onto the tiny part that attaches it to the press bar. I've already been in touch with someone on here who might be able to fix the lever, fingers crossed. I managed to get the barrel and section apart, and found another surprise. The sac nipple isn't there. Still, looking on the bright side, I was able to knock the nib and feed out and they are now both clean and ready to put back in. There are two very small and very thin bits of plastic in the ziplock baggie, so they may be the remains of what was once a sac nipple. Is it possible to reconstruct a sac nipple on a pen that is missing it's original one? I don't have a lathe, so I can't make a new section, or cut and drill out a plastic rod to make a new nipple from. Has anyone managed to reconstruct a sac nipple without a lathe? Or does this need a new section? Can it even be repaired at all? Pictures:

Swan Sf1 Lever Filler. Year Id
Cluedoh posted a topic in Mabie Todd Research/Special Interest Forum/Group
Hi all, I have recently purchased a Swan SF1 black chased pattern lever filler. It's in good nick and lucky me, the section just slipped off without any heat revealing the perished sack. It's in good nick ie no bite marks, however the gold lever has some brassing to it. The nib is a stub with "Mabie Todd and co NY or V? stamped into it. The cap end has 1SF Med stamped around the barrel. Could some of you "swanners" identify the apprtoximate year it was manufactured? I paid £20 for it at an antiques fair so not sure whether I paid over the odds or not. Please see my not so good images. Thanks, Cluedoh- 5 replies
