There is no doubt that Sheaffer has the most orthographically challenging name of any fountain pen company. As an aid to the thousands of FPN members who have mangled the word over the years, I humbly offer the following ditty, to the tune of "Without a Song." Without a C, the word is spelled just right. When E precedes the A, you've got it right. Two Fs come next to make the name take flight. Without a C.

I always thought that Matt was what Matthew's friends and family called him and matte was a deliberately non-reflective surface, but now I see both used to refer to the finish of pens. Is one incorrect and one correct? Are the spellings interchangeable? Or is this yet another symptom of our civilization circling the drain? James
