Zanders Gohrsmühle Reflex paper skipping mystery
jthole posted a topic in Paper and Pen Paraphernalia
Recently I bought some 100gsm Zanders Gohrsmühle paper, and I am noticing something strange. All of the Chinese pens I have (Asvine P20 Medium, Asvine V126 Fine, Majohn M800 Medium) skip on that paper (but not on the Clairefontaine paper I mostly use) and none of my European pens skip, so far. It doesn't feel coated or super smooth in any way, so it's a bit of a mystery to me. Especially since they work fine on all my other papers, including Clairefontaine Triomphe. Could it be that those Asvine / Majohn nibs have a slight bit of over-polishing, which makes them picky regarding paper surfaces? But then why the Gohrsmühle, since it doesn't feel like an overly smooth paper. For reference, it's this paper: https://www.amazon.de/Premium-Briefpapier-Wasserzeichen-Gohrsmühle-DIN-A4-Blatt/dp/B000KJOGL0 (otherwise than my Asvine and Majohn pens skipping, I am very happy with it). BTW, of course I don't think it has anything to do with the country of origin ... it's far more likely that the Asvine and Moonman nib grinds have a common characteristic. -
I know this isn't exactly a repair problem but as a newcomer to FPN, I wasn't sure where else to post it. I just received a new Platinum Century #3776 from a dealer in Japan and I'm disappointed to discover that it often skips for the first stroke or two (or three!) when I uncap it, or when I resume writing after leaving it uncapped for just a few moments. I flushed the pen with distilled water only and let it dry thoroughly before inking it for the first time. The pen is black/gold, broad nib, filled with Iroshizuku Ku-jaku. It is my first Platinum pen. Any suggestions? Thanks. Mike
