What exactly does each of these things Simichrome Micro Gloss liquid abrassive Renaissance Wax Pre-Lim I want to polish some caps and barrels and don't know what exactly to buy... Also, I already have Micro Mesh and a jewelers rouge, so I do get to a certain point, but there are still hairline scratches. What else would you recommend? Also, out of curiosity, what about car polishes/scratch removers, are those okay, or too abrasive? Thanks for reading!

Hi New here, and I have a burning question. (Well hopefully nothing will get burned). Am already a keen restorer of vintage handcrank sewing machines. Which means I have some Maas Cream to hand. Today I had my first, modest foray into older pens as a Parker Slimfold I'd ordered on eBay at the weekend has turned up. It looks pretty sound but I want to take it apart and clean it. Have found out how to do that with a simple pen like the Slimfold and feel confident enough to try as it wasn't an expensive pen. Now I keep reading about Simichrome but I already have both Peek and Maas Cream to hand. Sewing machine restorers seem to favour Maas for machine brightwork and I have had great results with it. Before I waste money.... anyone tell me if I could use Maas for the plastic barrel of a fountain pen? I have a 'sacrificial' old pen I could try it on first but was curious to know what you folk here think? Luckily, I also have a collection of Anglo Saxon and onwards metal artefacts that we seal with Renaissance Wax so I do have that to hand...

Waterman 52 1/2V Red Ripple: Wenol? Simichrome? Something Else To Polish It Up?
PaperQueen posted a topic in Repair Q&A
Thanks to my fellow FPNers (read: enablers), I've purchased a Waterman Ideal 52 12/V Red Ripple. From the seller's photos, it looks like a touch of polishing may be in order. What's better to use: Wenol (red label), Simichrome (which I already have, for the Esties), or something entirely different? Also, I assume a jeweler's polishing cloth will be fine for the gold plated furniture, right...? And (since this is rolling along), what about 100% pure carnauba wax? Does that come into play? Please advise, Oh Wise Ones. -
