I'm writing to ask for advice about selling pens. After many years of being a magpie wide-spectrum accumulator, I've started focusing (largely on Pelikan). Alas, cash-flow is an issue, so I need to sell some nice pens to be able to afford anything new. For example, I have a Delta Israel 60 LE, a Visconti Opera Master (blue) LE, a Visconti Wall Street (red), an orange Visconti Opera, an OMAS Milord HT, and a couple of OMAS Ogiva Cocktails. These are all beautiful (and fairly high-value) pens that I could bear to part with, as I almost never use them. I'm still on the fence about some other pens, like my OMAS Prototipo (same shape as my 360, but slightly smaller and in demonstrator yellow) and my Classic Pens LM1 (red). I did sell a pen (almost by accident) once, but I have never actively sold pens before. I know that I could go via eBay, but I am not a huge fan of that platform. However I go about it, I would want to send them tracked and insured, of course. Alas, I'm in a rural (for Europe) region, so in-person selling is completely out of the question, though I am planning to attend this year's Pelikan Hub later this month. My question is: what would you recommend as the best approach to take in selling some pens, bearing in mind that I'm not in a rush? @Moderators: I wasn't exactly sure where to post this: "Fountain & Dip Pens - First Stop" and "The Mall" were possible, but in the end I decided that the Market Watch forum seemed most appropriate - if you think a different forum is more suitable, please move it there... Best Way To Sell New Out Of Production Fountain Pens
BrianWM posted a topic in Fountain & Dip Pens - First Stop
Long time lurker, first time poster. I have six out of production fountain pens that are new in the box and decided to sell them. Should they be listed as NIB or NOS? As for pricing, I think the best way would be to base the price on concluded sales of the same pen. Any other suggestions regarding pricing? There are no pen shows where I live (SE Nebraska) and the closest listing I've found is for Chicago which is too far to drive. So that eliminates selling them at a pen show. I've read about some issues with ebay where buyers request a refund for not receiving the item even with proof of delivery. Has anyone had any experiences like that? It looks like online is my only option. Any recommendations for sites to use ? Any sites to avoid? thanks, Brian -
I have heard about folks selling pens on consignment but I have neither purchased a pen being sold on consignment nor sold a pen on consignment. That said, I am curious how selling pens on consignment compares to selling pens on your own via eBay or via the FPN Classified, for example; I have always been the pen buyer and never the pen seller. Would anyone be willing to share her/his experiences in selling pens on consignment? If you are willing to share your experiences, were you happy with your "cut" of the sale, how was the "cut" determined, and are there "recommended" consigners? Thanks! : )
