I recently picked up a Sailor Compass 1911 to round out an order, as well as satisfy curiosity about the shape/form factor of an actual Sailor 1911. Based on various reviews I've read and seen, I was prepared to be disappointed by the feel of the nib of the Compass. When I got the pen and inked it up with some Robert Oster Green Lady, I was very very surprised while trying it out on Rhodia and Tamoe River. It was was quieter, smoother, and had less feedback than all my other pens: Pilot Explorer (F); Platinum Preppy (EF) and (F); TWSBI 580 (EF), Eco (EF), Go (1.1 Stub); Lamy Vista (EF). The only pen that was smoother was my Platinum Preppy (M). It was only when I tested on regular paper -- 18 lbs laser paper -- that the Compass fell to the bottom of the heap exhibiting the often described pencil on paper feel. Did I just get lucky with this particular pen's nib and ink combination? Or is my grip or writing style just well suited for this pen? Or do I simply just not have enough experience yet being only about a month into this hobby?

New to this forum. I have a Sailor Pro Gear slim with a extra scratchy nib. As Sailor is not having replacement nibs is there any possibility to put another nib from another manufacturer onto the feed? Such a pity replacement parts (nibs) for Japanese pens are not available. kind regards Michel

I'm loving my new Sailor Pro Gear <H-M>. So now of course I am curious about Sailor pens with <S-M>. But I can't find them for sale anywhere. Do they even exist? 21k? Which models? Maybe as a replacement nib?

I recently purchased a 1911L with a 21k medium nib. The pen is on its way and I’m excited to try it out! However, I have heard a couple cases where the tines of the nib became misaligned after a while due to the characteristic of the 21k nib. Has this happened to anyone here and is it even an actual issue?

I'm shopping for a Pro Gear Slim Mini and found one on eBay supposedly new with an EF nib (seller in Japan). My understanding was they only came with MF nibs? In fact I would vastly prefer an EF. Can somebody confirm Sailor sells/sold a PGSM with an EF? So I can be relatively sure that the seller is not up to anything shady? Crossing my fingers...

When I read descriptions of the Sailor Specialty Nibs, I believe I understand what each can do. However, I don't understand who would want to use them, other than those writing characters which are traditionally written using brushes. If you are writing in a language that uses the Latin alphabet, how would you use a Nagahara nib that gives different line thickness depending on the writing angle? David

Advice needed! I enjoy a broad nib on my everyday use pens. In fact, I'd like something broader. I've been considering the Pelikan M800 BB nibs, Visconti Homo Sapiens BB nibs, Pelikan M1000 B as the next step. I've also become very intrigued with the Sailor speciality nibs. The King Eagle looks like great fun but very hard to get hold of and very expensive (and possibly too broad - I've seen some interesting writing samples on this forum). I've tracked down a Cross Point emperor nib on a Sailor 1911 which looks like it offers a great broad line (as well as line variation). I should also say I've no experience with italic or stubb nibs. I enjoy a wet, smooth writer. I'm looking for options / advice on what pens / nibs forum members would recommend. So what's the best broader (very broad) pen/nib? Some constraints to help guide discussion (appreciate this may frustrate some members): - Large pens preferred but the nib is key - Budget up to £700/ $1000 - Not really looking to work on the nib / install in a pen - should (in an ideal world) work out of the box. - Options should be fairly easily sourced online Aprreciate any guidance from the well informed and experienced members of this forum. Thanks in advance.

I was planning to purchase a Sailor King of Pen with specialty nib but they are nowhere to be found online. What with the update? Is it true that they have stopped making those nibs completely or have put a temporary halt on these. I plan to buy Cross Music Emperor Nib and any help will be appreciated.

I recently watched online Matt's review for the LB5 by Classic Pens that sports a Sailor nib. I am also aware of the Cross Peerless pen that is also a collaboration with Sailor. Does anyone know of other pens (current production or discontinued, any nib size, any price range) that come with Sailor made nibs? Thanks in advance
