  1. I recently made a purchase from someone who is generally known to be a trusted seller of fountain pens here (I prefer to leave this anonymous because I do not want to tarnish anyone's reputation unless there has in fact been a problem). We communicated back and forth via e-mail over about a week and I finally decided to make the purchase. The pen was removed from the site, a Paypal payment request was sent to me and I paid the amount. Afterwards, I wanted to double check that the shipping address was correct, so I e-mailed back. After 3 days of no response, I e-mailed again. After 7 days, I e-mailed a third time. It's now been 10 days and I have had no communication: no confirmation of the correct shipping address, no mention whether the item has shipped and no tracking number. The only evidence suggesting that I will ever receive the pen is that the listing was removed from the site. How long would you wait without any communication before cancelling the payment via Paypal?
  2. Hi folks, I am seeking assistance in transferring a smallish sum of money to a recipient in the US for a pen-related product. The recipient has asked for a money order as the preferred method of payment. The recipient is of impeccable reputation, so I have no suspicions about this. In New Zealand the charge to buy a money order is $25. Quite frankly I think that is a blatant rip-off. What I am looking for is someone in the US who I could transfer the funds to via PayPal, and who would then go and purchase the money order locally and send it via US Post (or equivalent) to the intended recipient. I will cover the PayPal and postal charges too. Essentially I am seeking a favour here. A small amount of time in order to help out a member in a very distant place. Obviously I am aware of the risk I may be running with this, but the risk is mine alone. With that in mind I may have to exercise a certain level of discretion should there be more than one person willing to help. I don't know many people on here that well, so I hope you will understand my need for caution. This is not a big money transfer (well under $100) and is not connected with anything illegal. If anyone is in a position to aid me with this please PM me for a conversation. Many thanks in advance. edit: the forum wont let me capitalise USA. No offence intended by the title.
  3. Can anyone please tell us what is meant by Paypal 180 days protection? If suppose I pay to someone for buying some FPs through Paypal invoice (not eBay transaction/ seller has no website) does it mean I get Paypal protection in case seller does not ship or creates any other issues after payment? thanks
  4. Just looking for some advice: I was on another FP board and was offered a beaten up Waterman 52 with a nib transplant with a super nice 0.23 to about 3mm flex nib on it. Dude seemed pretty nice and genuine, so I went ahead via paypal. He posted images of the pen and even did a writing sample for me. He confirmed he got my payment on the 17th (16th in the US) and said he'd clean it and send it the day after (and send me tracking number / attach it to the paypal payment, which he still hasn't done either). Since then, he hasn't responded to any PM's and he's showing the 20th as his last "activity" even though he didn't post anything. His last post was his PM to me saying he'd send it tomorrow, I believe. I even sent an email off to the address used for his paypal hoping that would connect. My question: How long do you think is reasonable (assuming no correspondence) before I start mentioning forcing a refund from paypal / actually go ahead with it. I'm thinking one and a half weeks, charging back on the 2nd week, but curious to get some input from other people with more experience in the buying / selling pen market.
