"frosted" Oliver Karma Fp Review. Self Customised Finish.
cjpandya posted a topic in Fountain Pen Reviews
Hello fellow FPNers, So it was a lazy Sunday afternoon and i was in front of my laptop with a cup of freshly brewed coffee. Beside my laptop was lying the Oliver Karma demonstrator. I had bought it quite a while ago and used it quite a lot. As a result. The clear acrylic barrel had developed scratches that scratched the eyes of the viewer. Also, it had not been factory polished from inside the barrel when i had bought it. It had the marks of lathe machine in it. As i sipped my coffee, an idea struck me like a bolt. Perhaps the result of my strong brew! I thought, why not try and give it the "frosted" finish that has recently gained quite some popularity. And off i went to convert my thought into action. The pen itself is an eyedropper as evident. Nothing complicated. Just unscrew the Barrel (Huge 20 turns to open it up!) and ink it up and you are good to go. Initially it burped sometimes. I found out it was due to loose fitting nib and feed. Fixed it up by tightening the nib and feed into the section. The issue was resolved. The nib is okay in writing. Nothing to write home about but not bad either. Just average. Then again, its a 150 Rs pen. Quite decent for the price seeing that you get a hand turned clear acrylic barrel. The original finish. This how it came out after i used a bit of varied degree of sandpapering. The writing sample. My Instagram post (chintan_pandya)- 5 replies

"molten Sky": The Oliver F27 (Blue-Black Acrylic Variant) Review.
cjpandya posted a topic in Fountain Pen Reviews
Hello dear FPNers!, Today I received my much awaited Oliver F27 Fountain Pen in the post from our trustworthy Mr. Subramaniam of ASApens.in. I had requested the Blue acrylic variant of the pen because i love the colour. It was not listed on the site but dear Mr. subramaniam arranged it for me and shipped it. Now, although our fellow FPN member, Mr Mohit has excellently reviewed the pen; I am reviewing it because mine is a different colour and I just felt like sharing.Okay, so when i opened the package, i just stared at the pen in awe...for a while! And here's why... The acrylic on this pen is Just so "fluid" and with all that shimmer, i just felt like i am holding a frozen part of the sky in my hand! Hence the title. And yes that's geeky CONSTRUCTION is bold and sturdy but on the lighter side which makes writing a pleasure for long durations. And trust me, you would want to keep on writing with this pen! Look at all that acrylic (However, the pictures don't do justice to the beauty of the pen as usual.) The Cap is solid and clicks satisfactorily and securely in place. The Clip has just the right amount of tension to fit properly in a pocket. The finial. The Section has just enough girth for me to hold comfortably. P.S. The black line on the cap in this image is an editing mistake and is not present on the pen itself. The NIB is just.... I like broader nibs and the Schmidt nib unit on this pen is just perfect! It is so smooth and wet! That's Chelpark turquoise on the nib bdw in case you were wondering The pen comes with an option to add a Schmidt converter with your purchase on ASApens.in but i did not buy it because it was a little steep for me. And a standard international converter fitted just well in my pen. The writing sample. (My instagram edit.) Conclusion. I give it a 10/10! Yes, it is that good for the price! The acrylic is surreal, the writing; Superb. It is well balanced in hand, well constructed, the filling system is well, standard but also convenient. I cannot ask for more of the pen. If you are considering buying it, the only deal breaker for some might me the nib width as it is only available in Medium size. But other than that, its a steal! As per Mr. subramaniam, the pen company is going to cease producing the pen and it will not be restocked again. So grab one if you want to!- 56 replies

"frosted" Oliver Karma Fp. Self Customised Finish. (Eye Candy Images)

Till now I thought that by the name Fountain Pen Network - this was only about fountain pens. However, I recently came across the rules of this review subsection and was somewhat surprised, but also happy that the forum has kept for itself the broadness and width of writing instrument and not restricted itself to Fountain Pens only ! The very first sentence of the rules say - "The Pen Review sub forum is specifically for reviews of writing instruments (although fountain pens are the focus, you are free to review art pens, ballpoints, rollerballs, mechanical pencils, etc)." So here it goes - my first review of Ball Point pens. Actually, its two ball point pens - which are very interesting. One I use as daily ball point. The other is only more of a curio item. Both these pens are from Oliver, which is a brand from Chennai (India). I purchased them from asapens.in offsite, as they till date have not listed any ballpoint pens Oliver M2 This is a very good, small in size acrylic pen. The acrylic colours are lustrous - and have variety of hues. (They also have FPs of similar acrylics that go by name Oliver F27, and Oliver Superb F. Both of these FPs come with Schmidt M nibs) a1 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr The name Oliver M2 is engraved on the clip a2 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr This is very good pocket pen, and has a triangular grip. Though I am not a fan of the triangular grip, its not a problem to use. It has actual three sides (unlike Lamy Safari that has only two sides, the third side being cylindrical) a3 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr The fact of the matter is that I can pop it into my trouser pocket. The good thing is that it uses a standard jotter refill that is found universally. And jotters have anyway a good ink capacity. Though for most time, I use Fountain Pens, when I go outside - places like market, railway station etc, this ball point is easier to take and handle! Besides it has a good looks - that I like very much. Oliver Mini The next pan is "perhaps" called Mini. I am not sure of the name, because the clip only contains the name of brand "Oliver". This is a curio pen - more a collectible pen - and hardly of practical use. This is also acrylic, and comes in a box made from that same acrylic ! a4 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr It is very small in size a5 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr even when compared to the M2, it is not just mini, but looks tiny! a6 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr The two pens in the "on" position a7 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr The two pens disassembled a8 by anup@indiapoint, on Flickr Thanks for reading. (note on images - my quota of FPN storage is nearly over, so I had to use Flickr, and to abide by Flickrs Terms, I have kept the embed link as it is)
