Hello. I'm wondering what dip pen nibs should a beginner that is serious about learning purchase? I'm okay with spending a decent amount of money if the quality justifies the price, considering I don't plan on randomly dropping the hobby and I'm absolutely *determined* to get good at calligraphy. Also: Does it matter what nib holder I purchase? If so, what would you guys recommend (for both a straight holder and an oblique holder)? Thanks in advance for any responses. =)

Last year I became fascinated with the notion of new and old technology being used together. With that thought in mind I purchased a 3D printer and began to design and fabricate dip pens from ABS plastic. Once I had a CAD design I was happy with (there was a lot of trial and error there), I started to experiment with different finishes. As you may know, 3D printed items generally have a cold, rigid feel to them. The process I developed leaves them feeling smooth and warm in your hand. They weigh just 1/8 oz. and are available in a variety of colors including glow in the dark (the glow in the dark ones almost look like light sabers). Thanks for looking!

Does LAMY make a nib holder for the Safari/Al-Star nibs? I'd like to eventually have 1 of each size of nib, but then thought, maybe they sell a full set in a nice case? or sell a case/holder on it's own, but, not seeing one. Does such a thing exist? if not, LAMY should make one... otherwise, I guess I can get a 7 day pill holder... I think they make 8 nib sizes, so, 7 day pill holder, 1 for each nib + the nib in use. Rather have a nice branded holder though.

Here is one of my hand carved wooden dip pens. This one is painted and has been given several coats of clear lacquer.
