Hello all! I am happy to announce that i am now a fellow member of the montblanc party joining in with a rose gold 149 As a newbie to the fountain pen world, is there anything i should watch out for in my new pen?

Hello all, I'm a new "member" but not new to fountain pens. I enjoyed my first one back in the '60's when I was in 7th grade! By 10th or 11th grade I had worked my way up to a beautiful Parker, which I recall had a maroon barrel, a brushed chrome top and a gold clip (with the Parker design). I thought my pen was the most elegant thing around, and I loved writing with wet ink. I'm not someone with a beautiful, highly evolved penmanship like many of here. I am typically drawn to the looks of the pen more than anything else. I love the design lines, the rich interplay of deep colors and the physical feel. Writing is pleasant because I enjoy the process and mechanics of wet ink flowing through the barrel to the nib to the paper. I actually am going to sell my beautiful Mont Blanc 149 (M) circa 1992 on the Classifieds here. It is a beautiful piece in beautiful shape. I barely used it because it was just too big for me. I'm interested in the S.T. DuPont Line D fountain pen. If anyone has experience with these or knowledge I'd love to hear from you. If you or a friend is in the market for the MB 149 please let me know that too. I look forward to enjoying this community and contributing where I can. Thanks!

So I have just graduated from college and I am in the market for a gift for myself and it is time for me to step up from my sub 150 dollar pens. I am very interested in the 146 and possibly a 149 with the two tone? nibs. I have watched lots of videos but I do not have anywhere near buy that I can physically get a hold of one unfortunately. I write with FPs alot as me and my girlfriend write to each other in a journal often so is one better suited to extended writing sessions? I have seen some prefer the 149 but the size to be honest seems intimidating. I am also trying to find one used with the box and the majority of things it came with if possible but everything that fits the bill always seems to be sold on the classifieds and ebay seems a bit sketchy for a big ticket item that is often faked. any advice would be appreciated. Hi guys, I don't know much about MB. I know more about Waterman and Parker, but MB is new to me. Could someone shed some light for me? Now, I would like a new 149 soon-ish (at least I think I want a 149 - I'll get to this later). Not "previously-owned-but-still-boxed-new" (unless it's from someone on this forum perhaps because everyone seems hugely trustworthy and lovely on here). The fact that I don't know what I'm looking for really on ebay makes me nervous to do it that way. They write things like "149 Legrand diplomat 14K nib" and I'm like, whaaaaat? that's not right! So, I went into an MB store in Montreal. Around this time they are stripping all other 3rd parties of their stock. So it's an MB store or nothing...and they said a 149 would cost me $1000 CAD, straight up. Zero movement on price (of course). The Canadian dollar is taking a beating so I understand the conversion. I am having a child soon and I want it to be an heirloom etc. I mentioned earlier in parentheses that it's probably a 149 I want, but we're having a baby girl and not sure if that's an ideal heirloom over a Legrand...? So, if I just want the current 149 (or LG), where can I look for a better price and, failing that, what should I look for online? Cheers and thanks for reading my drivel. Ross

Hello . I just found one MB 149, but the Iridium ball is something weird, it looks like upside down, with a few iridium material in contact with the paper, and a lot of iridium material on the opposite side. I have read about a few special ball rounded nibs , usually in the 146 tester box can find that special ball tipped nib, but I do not know if this ball tipped nib is also available for the MB 149. Thanks for your help. Regards
