    What’s your grail pen?

Hello! Just very interested in what your grail pens are.. no matter if it’s $50 or $10,000, I would be very interested to hear your responses. W. H. Major (My grail pen(s) [can’t choose one!] are the Waldmann Tuscany (18k Gold nib), Pineider Avatar UR Deluxe, Conway Stewart Duro (modern), and the Pilot Custom 823)
  2. Hello again everyone! Happy new year! Now that I've been able to obtain one of my grail pens, I'm wondering which one is the next possible purchase? I've decided about the Decimo- but before I start saving up, I'd really appreciate to know your thoughts about the Decimo, it's positives, it's negatives, things like that. Thank you for your insights! 💜💚
  3. I have 3 daily drivers now: Pilot Custom 823 M, Justus 95 F, and Sailor 1911L MF. As you can tell, I prefer finer nibs, the M nib on my Custom 823 is the widest nib I can accept for my daily note taking. Now I have the following pens on my grail list: 1. Visconti Medici 2. Aroura 88 3. Sailor KOP 4. Montblanc 146 (dont really enjoy it being a status symbol, but so many reviews has pointed it out as a good writer) 5. Others suggestion? Whats your opinion on these pens? What nib size should I get for the pen you recommended to me?
  4. Please forgive my pictures... this is my first review and I shot it with my wife's IPhone .. So here we go ... My heart almost burst out of my chest as I stood there signing for my international package ..The mailman looked at me and saw the gleam in my eye and he knew that he had brought me something very special indeed..... As I tore into the package I could see of one of my Grail pen's finally becoming a reality.. The packaging was subtle and yet sophisticated .. I didn't expect it to include two in cartridges and a converter.. When I first picked it up the weight felt good my in my hand. The balance was well tuned but posted...is when it really sang ... When the cap Popped off the highly tuned medium fine nib had Excalibur sharpness to it ..My Mike Masuyama Franklin Cristoph # 6 cursive Italic ...or the softness of my 14k med falcon nib had had a run for their money.. Inking it up with One of my favorite inks Pilot itoshizuku Kon-peki was the perfect match for the soft blue of the barrel ... Now the magic happened. Placing the nib down on my Rohdia dot Pad, The pen seemed to write it by itself the flow was wet but definitely not a gusher.... There was a little feedback That let your paper absorb the ink gladly ... The nib stacks up well in comparison to a few of my other inferior models... At $395 with free shipping I feel some one should lock me up because this was a real steal .... O wait that was $3.95 I hope this helps someone and that you found it helpful Thanks for your time ...Enjoy the photos ..check out my blog aredfalconand I make puppets
  5. My Nakaya Mini Decapod in Kuro-tamenuri pen with a two-toned 14K nib customized with Kanji characters has finally made it through the agonizing 2 week trek in the postal delivery service to my house!!! Alas, I'm stuck at work at the moment but I wanted to document my excitement for posterity. It has arrived a couple months ahead of the original 6 months quoted time which is just in time for Christmas! Brilliant. I hope I don't have an accident rushing home. Cheers!
  6. There are a few contenders for the Holy Grail as I understand it - the Jerusalem Chalice described by the pilgrim Arculf who blessed his hand before he touched it. Maybe this Bishop wasn't as holy as he thought, for the veneration of the holy object didn't do him much good. On the way home he was shipwrecked, but managed to struggle through the deadly currents to land himself on the beach of the Isle of Iona to be nursed back to health under the auspices of the then Abbot, Adomnan (I have no idea how to get fada over that second 'a' - apologies to the linguists among you). This one is long gone though. Then there is the Valencia chalice - an agate cup set in a huge silver holder that mostly resides behind glass and yellow lighting in the fine cathedral. It's still there;as is the Antioch Chalice in a New York Museum (I think) and possibly the oldest surviving contender. It is a huge lump of silver with lots of relief work on it. Last, but not least, is the salubrious sounding 'Holy Basin' which also happens to be broken in half. I think it's still around somewhere; old and worn yet surely loved by many. 'Get to the point!' I hear you cry.The point being that there is more than one contender for the title of the Grail. In the same way, the holy grail of fountain pens has to my mind more than one contender. I know this may sound like sacrilege to some and maybe there is some holy fountain pen writ somewhere that states there must only be one, but I did wonder if anyone else, like me, finds the idea of there being just one grail a little limiting and the idea of multiple grails much more appealing and interesting. For me there are currently three and they all came late to the party, after years of great service from Sheaffer's and Parker's, followed by a slew of cheap Chinese pens and a few more refined choices. They are, in order of appearance, the Conklin Crescent Filler 2NL (which was something of a surprise grail), whose original makers are now long gone; the Pelikan M1000 in green stripe (which took a little while to purchase as it wasn't exactly cheap) and which sits in my creepy glass case in the study under a yellow desk light and the delightful F Scott Fitzgerald from Montblanc which I had drooled over every time I saw it and had convinced myself I would never be able to afford until stumbling over a good deal fairly recently (never give up looking!) which resides in the rather un-salubrious surroundings of the side table where I can reach for it regularly with ease. So, am I horribly mistaken? Is there really only one true grail and I should give up on my little Trinity?
  7. I may not have been sent on my quest for new pens by God, but I will still purchase them anyway! A throwaway Monty Python reference is always a great way to start off a thread... At the beginning of the school year, I made myself a promise to not buy another pen until 2014 (excluding my birthday and Christmas, of course). Since then, I have saved up money in hopes of pampering myself once I finally reach that time. The pen I originally had in mind (and have been working towards being able to afford) is a Visconti Homo Sapiens. This pen has been on my wish list since I started lurking on FPN in mid-July. The price tag is a hefty $560 from Fountain Pen Hospital (NYC .875% Sales Tax included, since I will be purchasing my pen in person), and I cannot conjure up this money lightly. Therefore, I want to be very careful how I spend it. As I mentioned, I've wanted this pen for a long time. I would consider this a true Grail Pen, save a few Omas and Conway Stewart pens that I am by no means able of acquiring at this moment. If I were to purchase this pen, I would be purchasing something that would be with me for the rest of my life... but there are some issues with that. Around a week ago, I started looking on the Fountain Pen Hospital website for more pens to drool over, an activity that has become a regular pastime This trip down wow-I-want-that lane caused me to think of other ways I could spend that $560. It also stirred up a lot of doubts in my mind. Do I really want a nib spewing ink all over the page? As as student, I have to use crappy paper on a fairly consistent basis. Do I really want to spend all this money on one pen... when I could buy THREE PENS? My friends are d*cks (the missing vowel is not a u), and they take my pens all the time. What if it was damaged? Of course, these thoughts are combated by the Visconti fan-boy inside of me. You're a Junior in High School, you're going to be saving up scratch money for college from this summer on. Are you ever going to put together this much money for a pen in the next 5 years again? This is your only opportunity to buy this for a very long time. Do you really need more pens? They're in a more realistic price range and could be bought easily in the future. Your pen will be made of lava. LAVA! And it's a vacuum filler... and it will last until the sun explodes... and Visconti makes the best nibs you've ever written with... You get where I'm coming from here. And so, as my fingers weaken from typing this novella, and your eyes undoubtedly flutter and become heavy from making it through such an arduous tale (unless you didn't read it all, you cheater ), I must pose the ultimate question that could have easily been asked in 200 words or less... TL;DR VERSION Should I spend my money on my muse, flame, and Grail, the Visconti Homo Sapiens, a pen I will most likely never have the chance to purchase again (until several years from now )? Or should I take a different route and purchase three other pens that would be easily obtainable in the future, but somewhat arguably a better use of the cash? (Note: The other pens I have in mind are the Pelikan M600, the Namiki Falcon, and another Kaweco Sport Classic. These will be complemented nicely by a dash of ink. At the FPH discounted prices, these pens fit the allotted budget I have made for the Homo Sapiens)
