Bad experience with Noodler's Black and i am really wondering why
ThePenLover posted a topic in Inky Thoughts
Hey , i was really wondering why i had such bad experience with Noodler's Black - Normal ( not Eel - lubricated ) ...... Not a single fountain pen in my collection can handle it and flow ..it produces nib creep ( ink stains the nib between the nib tines ) and it dosen't have a flow at all most of the time , hard starts are guaranteed . Yet it is the most popular black , it may be a good ink in general , but not a single pen of mine can even flow with it On the other hand Noodler's Blue - American Eel ( lubricated ) is one of my top inks ! Haven't found a solution or a explanation till this day . Thanks- 5 replies

I have gotten my hands on a nice pristine Parker 45, everything is fine except for the flow. It is an Extra Fine but it isn’t much finer than a Parker Fine to my dismay, but isn’t much of a nuisance to me. The pen didn’t write finer than the Parker Fine, but the flow was blatantly drier. The colour of the ink is much lighter than it is supposed to be, and I have already washed the pen thoroughly and flushed it too. I have also tried multiple inks. Yet no matter which ink I use it in, it is still much much lighter! Any ideas on how to solve this? Cheers, Ian

Hi, today I got a pair of bottles of Sennelier ink as a present. They're shellac-based, and I've never used this type of ink before. I tried them both with pointed nibs (Esterbrook 357 and Gillot 404) and italic ones (Leonardt), and with the pointed ones they didn't flow well, whereas with the italic ones they just left gobs in the page. (The nibs are clean and don't have problems with other inks I have). Does anyone have any tips on how to use them? Should I dilute them for the pointed pen work, and use gum arabic for the broad pens? Any hint would be very welcome! Martín
