    Further Thoughts About Big Pens

By the way, while I'm thinking about it, does anyone know of any variety of ringtop pen that carries an oversize nib? The biggest I've ever seen is on my Dorics, but they're only slightly larger than the typical #2 nibs of the time.
  2. I bought a YUGE Dunn pen with a wonderfully flexy nib, but the barrel has a piece broken off it (the piece is included). I asked the seller if it wasn't bchr, but he insisted that it was Bakelite and could be repaired. So I researched Bakelite repairs, and it appears that the antique radio and telephone fanciers have a variety of methods to keep their prizes in one piece. I'm curious to see if anyone has tried any of those methods with pens. If it's fixable, I might try to keep the bits together because that magnificent nib may be too big for any of my ringtop pens - even my Dorics.
  3. Hi, everybody. I own a 1904 Waterman pump fill pen and a 1920's Dunn pen. Both are pump filling pens and seem to fill in the same way, by pumping them several times. I wander if someone knows what is in the essentially different in their filling mechanism. Thanks, Victor.

Blind Cap For A Dunn Eyedropper

I recently scavenged myself a Dunn eyedropper with a rather nice nib. It would probably be functional, but the blind cap (which were characteristically red) is missing. I call upon the the collective wisdom of the network to suggest a source for a replacement piece - not necessarily the right piece, either - or give it up and salvage the nib? I await your suggestions.
  5. i recently picked this lot up off ebay for $135 shipped. that doesn't sound like a sumgai find at all, and maybe it's not. i took a gamble on this bunch of pens advertised simply as "4 FOUNTAIN PENS MISC NAMES COLORS" because i saw something in it the minute it was posted, bid on it immediately, and nursed that bid for nearly a week until it closed. as i expected, one other bidder tried to snipe me in the closing seconds, but i had a much higher backup bid, and survived. so what did i see? and was it worth it? http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/penmanila/KGrHqNqMFH9ywK3EiBSF3wfvUN60_58_zps328d606e.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/penmanila/T2eC16VzoE9s5nfFGBSF3wq5n-g60_58_zps074885c4.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll296/penmanila/T2eC16FQE9s3HCnuBSF3w9eRew60_58_zpsd2ce750c.jpg if i'm wrong, then i'm about $100 in the hole, but even so, there are at least two other good pens there i can probably recover that investment from. will post better pics and report more about condition, etc. when the lot arrives in a few days.
  6. I am hoping someone has a suggestion for a Dunn Pen. My Tattler Jr. with Ruby Bakelite barrel has a crack in the small ring that keeps the piston from being pulled out, so it won't stay on if the piston is pulled back. It appears to be hard rubber, but I am not sure of that. Any suggestions to seal the crack in a way that is strong enough to hold? There is ZERO need for it to be cosmetically appealing based on the location. Sounds like adhesives are out. Can I melt it shut with a soldering iron, or will that just mess up the threads on the inside? Tie some thread or dental floss around it before replacing it? Fine wire to hold it tight? Could I be so lucky that someone would know of a suitable replacement?
