  1. DOMINANT INDUSTRY - Soleil couchant à Étretat Ink Review # 197 --- 🧾 Description Dominant Industry is fairly new Korean Ink-maker. They are well distributed around the world. Ink comes in 25 ml teardrop bottles. This ink belongs to the Painter series, some of them are standard, some shimmer. As of now there are 3 painters, Monet, Turner and Mucha. https://dominantindustry.creatorlink.net/psearch/num/1/stx/painter This is a standard ink. There is Les Falaise à Etretat but that’s a turquoise shimmer ink. Ink is named after one of the first paintings of the Etretat cliff and arches in Normandy France. There is Les Falaise à Etretat but that’s a turquoise shimmer ink. Ink is named after one of the first paintings of the Etretat cliff and arches in Normandy France. Photo courtsey of Wikipedia. Flow is dry, and ink has below average lubrication. That being said, the writing experience differs depending nib & paper combination: - Lamy EF was scratchy on most papers, lovely on Tomoe River 68 gsm. - Stub was awful on all papers but Iroful and Hammermill. Colour is pale with a dry pen and dark (thus legible) with a wet pen. Shading is paper dependant: - Extreme on Iroful, - Good on Rhodia, Midori. - Faint on Tomoe River 68 gsm - I loved the color on copy paper. --- 🧪 Chroma --- ✍️ Writing Samples (scan) Colors are approximative. Rhodia / Iroful Midori /Tomoe River 68gsm Hammermill 20lb --- 📸 Photo Rhodia/ Iroful Midori / Tomoe River 68 gsm Hammermill 🔍 Comparison --- 💧 Water Test --- 🎨 Artwork Etretat, Between Dream and Mist I used Tintenlabor Alpstein for the grey, though I added DI ink to parts of it. Paper is Canson Water color. --- - Pens Used: Pilot F3A EF, Semi-Flex. Lamy (EF/F/M/B/ Stub 1.1) - What I Liked: · Writing on Iroful and copy paper. Ink washes. - What I Did Not Like: Color on Midori, writing experience with some combination, paleness. - What Some Might Not Like: Dry, low lubrication, pale. - Writing Experience: Variable. - Pros: Shading, lovely colour. - Cons: Dry, needs write combo. Price. 🧷 Ink Characteristics - Shading: From extreme to subtle. - Ghosting: Faint on copy paper with dry pen. - Bleed Through: A hint with the EF wet Pilot. - Flow Rate: Dry. - Lubrication: Below average to dry. - Nib Dry-out: Did not notice. - Start-up: Ok. - Saturation: Nope. - Sheen: Nope. - Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Did not notice. - Nib Creep / Crud: Did not notice. - Staining (Pen): Nope. - Clogging: No. - Cleaning: Easy - Water Resistance: It survives a few drops but not a downpour. --- 🛒 Availability - [ ] Available in 25 ml bottles, everywhere. --- 💬 Closing This is paper, pen dependant nib. If you like dramatic shading it needs a dry pen and Iroful paper. If you want legibility it’ll be perfect on absorbent paper. If you dabble into ink washes, you’ll be in heaven. No fountain pens were hurt in preparing this review. ;) Please don’t hesitate to share your experience, writing samples, or any other comments — the more the merrier. :)

    well, now this is unfortunate

I was excited to try my first two Dominant Industry inks. One is quite nice, if impractical for most writing purposes. It's a somewhat unusual light, powder blue with a (faintly pink) silver shimmer: it's called Snowfield, in the Pearl series. (There's an apparently similar but probably less icy blue, too -- I think it's called Glacier. I don't know how they compare.) The other ink I got was Lungo (Standard line), described as coffee scented, though the smell supposedly dissipates quickly. It's a dry, medium-dark ashy brown, and it smells like pickled coffee. My nostrils are still burning.
