    Mercian's Demonstrator Pens

    From the album: Mercian’s pens

This (bad) photo shows my current 'fleet' of 'demonstrator' pens. L→R they are: Lamy Vista (my first Lamy pen, and one that I have had for long enough that I have almost entirely worn-off the sticker on the end of its barrel that said 'LAMY'); Pilot Prera Iro-Ai green, with 'EF' nib; Pilot Prera Iro-Ai black, with 'F' nib; Pilot Prera Iro-Ai red, with 'M' nib; an un-branded Chinese-made pen. That last pen has a folded steel nib with no indicated nib grade. I bought it a few years ago - with two included cartridges - for 'fully' £0.59 in a bricks-&-mortar shop here called 'Home Bargains'. You can see that its clip is broken (its only utility is as a roll-stop. Cf the clip on my Pelikan P480 Pelikano). It wrote perfectly acceptably with the first of its included cartridges. At this price, I was frankly surprised that it even wrote at all. It is rather small for my paw, so I have not yet used its second cartridge of (unbranded) black ink.

  2. Having finally 'completed' my collection at present (until more are released!) I thought I'd take a moment to share my collection of clear demonstrators, along with a solution for pen storage I haven't seen before that I think works well. The curation rules for my collection are: - Must be colorless transparent, including a major part of the cap - Must be monochrome (rhodium, sterling, stainless, aluminum, etc. furniture OK, gold etc. not) - Must not be a collaboration with a non-pen company (e.g. Porsche, Momo, Lamborghini) - Must have been available at retail - No frankenpens/customs (e.g. Edison customs to which there would be no end) Without further ado: http://i.imgur.com/ItlNfTW.jpg The storage is via a combination of the 5-drawer Muji acrylic box (absolutely the perfect size, and appropriate for clear demonstrators in particular) and Gary Lehrer's pen trays, cut to size. http://i.imgur.com/s2IG6k7.jpg Not quite full, but getting there. The last few pens are my non-demonstrator EDCs. http://i.imgur.com/HcfL7Pa.jpg Tray 1: Conid Bulkfiller Titanium FlattopDelta Dolcevita IT Demonstrator OversizeVisconti Opera CrystalAurora Ottantotto (88) Vintage DemoAurora Optima DemonstratorStipula Etruria NudaDelta Dolcevita IT DemonstratorSailor KOP DemoSailor Professional Gear Realo Demo Hougado Ltd. Twsbi Eco Vs Lamy Vista

I am plannning to buy a demonstrator starting pen- The TWSBI Eco or Lamy vista. How do they compare? TWSBI Eco in medium or fine. How does the medium on TWSBI Eco compare with other mediums? How does the fine compare with others? Lamy Vista in fine or extra fine. How does the fine compare with a Lamy medium? Is there a huge difference between them? Is the extra fine REALLY fine? How do these pens compare with each other on the basis of writing, comfort, durability and looks? Thanks for any help provided. (I need replies as soon as possibe as I have to order it today so as to get it close to my birthday on the 26th) Thanks again.
  4. I have just ordered the 4 Seasons inks and have several demonstrator p ens I would like to use these inks in, but don't want to stain them. Does anyone have experience with Visconti Opera, Pelikan M8XX, M2XX demonstrator pens and the Sailor inks? Please share! Thanks in advance!
  5. Being new to inks, I'm looking for a blue or turquoise ink for everyday use in demonstrator pens. I'd like the writing to be dark enough to be usable for everyday writing (notes, grading) but apart from that the two things I'd like to have are transparency and shading. Noodler's Navajo Turquoise seems to be highly recommended, but I am wondering if people have other suggestions that I should compare or try out. I understand that transparent blues are somewhat harder to come by than reds. I've been really enjoying Noodler's Dragon Napalm and would love to have a blue/turquoise ink with similar characteristics (although DN doesn't shade much). Thanks.
