  1. Hi - I haven't been here for a while, but wanted to show off a new pen. I'm not an affiliate for this pen - instead I am the Hon. Secretary of the Detection Club, and have worked with Conway Stewart to create this pen, which is based on the weight and size of the Wordsworth, now sadly discontinued. It was one of my very favourite pens! This is the Detection Club pen from Conway Stewart in honour of the Detection Club. It is a glorious black with mostly gold trim. On the cap there is a red spacer - supposed to symbolise blood, because this pen celebrates the almost 100 years since the foundation of the Detection Club. The first members, from GK Chesterton, Dorothy L Sayers, Agatha Christie all the way down to AA Milne (yes, he was a crime writer too), are all listed on the barrel itself, which has been laser-engraved with all the names (including Eric the Skull, one of the most important and longest-standing members!). The cap itself has a standard CS clip which works well, bringing to mind the pens of the 1930s. On the very top of the cap is a rendition of Eric the Skull with the name of the Detection Club. At the back of the cap there is a list of the Presidents of the Detection Club from the first to the present day. I am personally a long-standing user of Conway Stewarts. The first pen I bought was one of the original limited edition Churchill pens, which I still adore. I moved on, some years later, to buy a solid silver Drake, which I adore, and later still worked with the company to design a special version of the Winston. However, I find more and more that I need a smaller pen, something which can easily be held in a shirt pocket. I have an Indiana Jones model, which is excellent for that, but I have to admit, this Detection Club pen is slightly larger, considerably heavier, and makes for a much more satisfying writing tool. The weight, balance and diameter are superb for my hand. The fact that it sits in my shirt pocket is a great advantage, too. The pen uses the larger size Conway Stewart nibs, which are soft, and give a good line variation. I have been using the prototype model for some six weeks now, and it's going to be painful to send it back to the Detection Club to be stored in the archives! If you are interested in the pen, please contact Conway Stewart. It's a limited edition and will go on sale very soon. A video of the pen can be seen below, and a week later, on 24th October, I made a second video comparing the Detection Club pen with the Winston and the Indiana Jones. In my opinion, this pen would be my second favourite pen just behind the Drake, which I find utterly beautiful and perfect to write with. I'm just saving up (mostly excuses) to justify the expense of a new one! So, if you enjoy crime and mystery writing, and would like a pen to celebrate the authors of the golden age of crime writing, this could be a good pen for you. I hope you enjoy the videos.
  2. Hi fellow FPNers I'm considering ordering a custom-made Conway Stewart Marlborough lever fill pen from Bespoke British Pens (BBP). I've read horror stories of terrible customer service, leaking sacs and snapping/faulty levers in Conway Stewarts from before BBP took over. Could you please share your experiences with BBP-made Conway Stewart lever fill fountain pens? Have you had any issues and how were they resolved? The pen I'm thinking of ordering is not part of their usual line-up...is it advisable to ask them to make a pen with a filling system that's not usually in their production line? Your feedback would be much appreciated! Many thanks! Best, John
  3. Hi all, Firstly, if this is in the wrong thread I apologise and will move it to the correct one if told to where. Right I am about to be the posesser of a Winston classic. Lucky me. So my question is to all Conway Stewart owners, what ink do you use and why? Thanks in advance. Kev

Should I get a JoWo medium or a broad nib?

So I have a pen which currently has a fine nib, but I would prefer a broader, wetter, and smoother experience. This brand uses JoWo nibs, and the fine was too feedbacky and fine, and it was a touch on the dry side. So this brand sells extra branded nib units, which are JoWo #6 18k nibs, and I was wondering whether I should buy a medium or a broad. I would like a smoother and broader (but I do not want a super broad nib) writing experience. So is the jump in nibs sizes from medium to broad, or fine to medium? Is the medium noticeably smoother? Thank you for your help, W. Major

Back In The Game After Years!

Formerly known here as "handlebar", my new name is more apropos as Celticshaman. After many years away from the pen world and all that entails, I have slowly been working my way back. Work, life, my business (photography ...Dragon Digital Photography) and other interests crept in and stole away most of my time. And, the industry was changing, not for the better. Coming back now, I see a LOT has changed!! I still have some penpals (always looking for new ones if interested!) and getting back into pens, ink, paper and the history of writing. I reopened my once archived Omas group on Facebook for anyone interested. https://www.facebook.com/groups/200590740889/ I look forward to getting caught up !! Seumas Dòmhnal Ross
