  1. Hi all! One of my partners is going to be visiting Kyoto in late December/early January, and offered to check out some pen shops while they're visiting to pick up any pens/ink I might want. I know there are some neat Japan-only exclusives, and buying Japanese pens/ink in Japan is probably less expensive than buying it where we're from (the US). The only problem is, I don't know what stores are in Kyoto, and I don't know what the going rate for pens out that way is. Does anyone here know of any fountain pen stores in Kyoto, or what the prices for pens/ink usually are out there? I'll have a budget of around $150 USD, and would love it if I could pick up a Sailor Pro Gear or similar pen- especially if it's exclusive to Japan. Same for ink! Any help or recommendations would be appreciated~ thanks so much!
  2. While I realize this is not fresh news (they closed in December of 2014), I thought it would be worthwhile to post this since no one else has. Plimpton's was in business for an astonishing 150 years. Below is a short article on the closing from the Hartford Courant (which, by the way, is America's oldest continuously published newspaper [1764] - I'm curious to see how much longer this one will survive). http://www.courant.com/community/west-hartford/hc-west-hartford-plimptons-closing-1127-20141126-story.html
  3. Hello all! I will be visiting LA at the start of September, and was wondering if anyone can recommend any brick and mortar fountain pen shops I should visit while I'm in the area? Or perhaps some vintage shops which may have some vintage fountain pens? Your suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

    Sunday In New York

I'm going into the city to meet friends on the UWS for a bite to eat on Sunday. Are there any pen shops you'd recommend I see while I'm there? The legendary Fountain Pen Hospital is closed on Sundays, unfortunately, Any suggestions? Is Lee's on W57 worth a visit? Thanks!

    Richard Binder Nib Treatment.

Hey, so I'm going to get a VP XF soon, and I know that the nib on that one is particularly fine, and as such it can be scratchy (sometimes). I've heard that Richard Binder 'Binderizes' the nibs for free, but honestly, I would prefer to make such an expensive purchase from my local brick and mortar store. It's my first expensive pen, and I want to make sure that I like the feel of it. Is the nib difference that big? I'm buying it for the super fine nib, so if it's worth it at all I'll probably get it from R.B., but how much does it help? Does anyone have any experience with a super fine nib that was binderized? Thank you!
