Hi! I'm a new member of the Fountain Pen Network! Nice to meet you all! Just found out that the Sonnet my mom gave me is a First Generation one, a Laque Firedance. But for some reason I have to give extra pressure for it to write without skipping, unlike other pens I own, which write with their own weight. Could it be Baby's Bottom? If so, would they fix it for me at a Parker Store? Thanks and have a great day FPN!

Is baby's bottom common in Montblancs? My 149 from 1990 has it but it writes flawlessly. I didn't even know it had BB until I was looking at the nib with a loupe days after I got it just to look at the nib up close.

I've seen with one of my wing sung 3008 pens that there's always hard starts on cheaper paper. If i press hard on the nib, the flow resumes but is a bit too wet. It does not write with it's own weight. This led me to think it had baby's bottom since the tines appeared aligned. However, when I use Tomoe River paper, it writes the first time every time. It also delivers a wet line, not a faint one. So is it a feed issue? I've never had this kind of a problem before. There's no issues with the feed keeping up with Tomoe River. I'm willing to experiment on this pen as well and would love any advice!

I just purchased an Pilot E95s (Elite) from Japan. Overall, I really like the pen. Flow is good and it is super smooth. It always starts right up, however, it will seem to hard start in the middle of a sentence. I'll write a few lines, and then, in mid-sentence, the first part of a letter (e.g. the upstroke to start a "w") will skip, and the rest of the letter will be fine. It almost immediately flows again, but I can see the impression on the page left from the nib where it skipped. The skips are only half a centimeter long and the flow resumes quickly. Is this a sweet spot issue, or a nib problem? Ink is Pilot Iroshizuku Syo-Ro.

Hello, I have a Kaweco Sport with a double-broad nib. When I first use the pen it doesn't start at all and I have to give it a couple taps or scribble a bit to get the ink going, but after that it works fine until I stop writing for a bit. I hear a lot about baby's bottom but I've never experienced it personally, so I don't know whether this is the case with my pen or not. The tines are wider apart than other Kaweco nibs I've used, including another double-broad, and there's a thin taper going from the bottom to the top of the tipping. I'm afraid the photo I've posted is the best I could manage. So, I'd like to ask (1) whether it's possible to tell from my description and the photo if this is a baby's bottom problem, and (2) would it be advisable to correct this myself with an abrasive? If it matters, the ink I currently am using with it is J. Herbin Orange Indien.
