  1. Hi FPN, I know a lot of you folks are fans of Aurora and are very excited about the new 365 Optima Abissi this year. Since this year is a leap year, Aurora made 366 pieces. According to nibs.com, the color is described as: "The Aurora Optima 365 Abissi Limited Edition fountain pen is made from green marble Auroloide and flecked with flakes of blue. Deep black on the section and flat cap ends provides luxurious design, while gold trim highlights the warmth of this quality writing instrument. This is a pen that must truly be seen in person to appreciate the complexity of the subtle color shifts." nibs.com link: http://www.nibs.com/aurora-optima-365-abissi-limited-edition.htm And from http://luxuryadvisor.online/2016/02/tribute-to-a-classical-time-aurora-optima-365-abissi/ they are beautiful! The 000 number is shown as below. And also in reddit, it is claimed that the last photo was shot without camera shy: https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/402wq5/not_camera_shy_at_all_the_aurora_optima_365/ When I first saw the picture, I was simply stunned and decided to go for one. So I purchased one from novelli.it and I have to say, Novelli is very pleasant to deal with, they put the order and packed very securely and shipped very fast. However, I am very disappoint by the Aurora changed their color. As you can see, the 000 is rich blue-green color with green base and blue strip. However, mine is blue and green strip with grey color base. I am very very disappointed that Aurora made a color change when they put the pen into production. Please check the picture of the actual pen below and see the differences! I compared this pen to one of my old style Optima and you can see how bad the pen actually looks. Again, I am very pleased with Novelli's service and I will contact them to figure the next step. But for further potential buyers of this pen. Be aware of this!
  2. Sorry to bother you guys, I'm not so knowledgeable in the Aurora brand, and my internet browsing doesn't aswer my question. I found an interesting Aurora optima for sale, but it looks different from the one I know. Is this an older model, with the groove on the section, near the nib? https://m.olx.ro/oferta/stilou-aurora-optima-IDaPaa9.html#:94cecea124
  3. Greetings to everyone guys. I am planning for a big pen purchase but I am pretty confused between the two. I will be buying the pen from the Nibsmith because most probably I am getting a grind on it. My main concerns here are: Quality and construction: I know both pens are expensive and well constructed. But every once in a while, I come across a thread about the auroloide in Auroras cracking. I have also come across threads where the bindes in Pelikan split. I want to know if this is a recent issue or a thing of the past. Nib performance: I know I said I might go for a custom grind. But just in case I opt otherwise, I need some opinions on how these nibs compare with each other. I will be getting a medium in the Aurora but I am not sure about the Pelikan because all the m800s I have tried, each nib is so different in the same nib width. Balance: Balance is very important to me as I am a student and I may need to write for hours with these. Can you guys tell me how they compare with each other in terms of balance? Aesthetics: As this is a big pen purchase, looks are definitely important to me. I need a very good and elegant looking pen. I am looking at the Blue Auroloide vs the Blue Gold Stripes. Can you show me a comparison photo between these? Thanks, Adit

    Heat-Set Aurora Optima Feed?

Has anyone tried heat setting the Aurora optima feed? Technically it should be possible because the feed is made of ebonite. Are there any caveats, warnings that you guys have run into while trying to heat set the feed? I have heat set several other pens like my piston filled OMAS milord and Indian pens like the Airmail 71J and 69EB with good results, so I know the process. I just want to make sure I'm not doing something that could harm the pen's finish, material etc. as this is my first Aurora. Thanks in advance!

    Price Increases

The Aurora Optima new, up to just about 4 weeks ago was available for 396USD in Chrome and 440USD in Gold trim. Overnight the price increased to 556USD, for both models. I had saved for one year to buy the Chrome model, though really desiring the gold, putting away five dollars here/ten dollars there until I had the money. I was about to place an order with a certain website only to find out the pen had somehow increased by 160USD. I was shattered to say the least, that the pen I saved for so long was once again out of reach. I worked for this pen, I saved and actually sacrificed for this pen...I wanted it badly enough...I was angry to have gone through all that only to be kicked again into reality...those without cubic money are inconsequential. I am tired of being kept from nice things only because I am not heeled with an endless wallet and massive resources. BTW...I did eventually buy the pen at the new overly high price increase. I would rather the pen be worth the money paid rather than having it packaged in leatherette cardboard and leather covered wooden boxes. Yes, two Aurora factory boxes. The fit and finish of the pen are impeccable...it is drop dead gorgeous. Is it worth 556USD? Not a snowball's chance in hell. In the venerable words of Rodger Daltry and the WHO...We Won't Get Fooled Again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To any and all Aurora Optima owners: I plan to treat myself to one last very nice pen...Please tell me what you think of the Optima. Is it reliable, nice writing in EF, how do you like it, etc?
