De La Rue / Onoto Identification Help Requested
TheDutchGuy posted a topic in Great Britain & Ireland - Europe
This is the catch from yesterday's pen show in Tilburg, NL. I'm not knowledgeable about vintage pens, so some help would be welcome. Ignoring the Sheaffer PFM for the moment, I found what is supposed to be a ca. 1938 Onoto 5601 in green marble with a 14k #3 Standard nib. Very nice pen, writes extremely well. I put J. Herbin Lierre Sauvage in it - great match! The other pen, which was bought by my son, is a very, very beautiful De La Rue / Onoto lever filler in brown-flaked marble. Exact model and year of manufacture as yet unknown. Any corrections and additional info are welcome! Thanks! -
Hi I am trying to restore a onoto the pen with model number 5601, I have established that the problem with the pen is the cork at the end of the pen are rotted, and therefore don't have a good seal, however to replace the cork you need to remove the rod, which to do so you need to remove the end cap on the end, I do not know how to remove the rod from the end cap, please help, Thanks

Recently I bought an Onoto 5601 in green marble. I rebuilt it and was shocked to find it wouldn't work. Now my Onoto rebuilds always work, so I took a very close look. I found cracks along the marbling - ugh! So I sealed these but it still didn't work. Then I noticed that the barrel was actually distorted; it will NEVER work! As it happened I had a 3050 in very nice order but lacking nib and cap. The 3050's section is identical to the 5601s, so I have what might just be the first Onoto Frankenpen to grace these pages! Cob

Onto Black Chased 5601 Barrel Material Id
Cluedoh posted a topic in Great Britain & Ireland - Europe
Hi all, I have acquired a black chased Onto 5601/46. I aim to renew certain parts, however before any heat treatment I need to know what the section and barrel are made of is it Vulcanite,Rubber or celluloid? I know the dating of these pens is slightly tricky owing to records being destroyed during the blitz. If I can unscrew the section I will be in a better position to order parts as I’m on the last lesson at the WES workshop in a few weeks time and will be able to work on it there. I would rather have the parts in anticipation. The other tools Dave Wells has. The pen does not fill and the filler knob does not tighten to fit flush with the barrel. I’m anticipating that it will need a new cork seal and a washer, nib straightened (14k 3ST) etc. etc etc. The eagle eyed of you will have spotted the non standard clip which will be replaced. What is the correct clip for the pen? See my not so good images! Thank you in anticipation, Cluedoh
