Hey guys & gals, I just got a Pelikan 140 EF via eBay. (Early Christmas gift to myself.) I knew the 140 had the longitudinal fins along the feed, but I was wondering if they function differently compared to feeds with the horizontal fins? I can't imagine this is purely an aesthetic decision by Pelikan. Anyone know why the difference? I will say that this is probably one of the wettest pens I've used based on my "extensive" 5 minutes of use so far with R&K Scabiosa. Thanks in advance! M5

Looking for some advice. I recently acquired a green striated 140. I'm guessing that mine is one of the later models as the green striations are pretty uniform and the nib collar was the clear styrene (spelling??). I've replaced the collar and generally cleaned everything up, leaving me with a great daily writer. The only issue is that you can't see the ink through the barrel at all. I have another, older 140 and the barrel has great transparency. Any tricks or advice on improving transparency? Can that even be done? Any advice appreciated! Will

I recently received an all black vintage 140. The pen is in excellent condition and the nib writes pretty well. However, I'd like to grease the piston but can't because the nib unit will not unscrew out. I've cleaned the pen manually and with an ultrasonic cleaner. I also applied some heat when trying to remove it. No luck. If the culprit is not dried ink but plastic shrinkage, is there any way to get the nib unit out? My understanding is that since the piston units aren't threaded, they ideally should be pushed out from the front (which, of course, would require removing the nib unit). Is there a repair person in the USA anyone could recommend? Or is trying to save the nib unit intact likely a lost cause? Thanks.

All in a row. My 5 little 140's, great writers all. These are the easy 'gets', I will probably not own many if any of the others. If you have examples of other 140's, it would be great to see pics. I really do need to make one of those light boxes, these pens are much nicer looking than they appear in these pics.

Hello, Today I went to the postal office to pick up my very first Pelikan. I was extremely excited about it, and the prospect of having a nice springy OB nib...until I got home and filled it with ink. Before filling, I noticed that the slit between the nib tines was completely shut at the tip (no light came through), but decided to fill it anyway and see how it writes. The thing is...it's a very smooth nib, but if I apply no pressure to the nib (as I usually do when writing normally), only a very feint line will come out of the tip. The ink may have something to do with this (Pelikan Blue-Black, and yes, I know it is a rather dry ink), but I haven't experienced this level of dryness with any of my pens (and I have quite a few already). If I start applying some pressure, I get a whole new experience. It puts down a pretty large amount of ink (though not extreme). So, anyone else encountered this? I was expecting a really wet nib (with no pressure), just gliding on the surface of the paper. Should I be worried, should I adapt my writing style, or even more, send it back to the seller?... Thanks!
