Candide, of course, is the best know and most studied masterpiece of Voltaire. Candide expands on all the human rights we take for granted in western culture, and for which we fought so long and hard.

Vermilion is the colour of the glowing edge of paper, when it is scorched, just before it burst into flames. It refers to the fact that many of Voltaire's works were banned and burnt, including Candide.
