Since you can't make it to LA Show, then I'll bring the show to you...

LA show is one of my favorite shows because of its proximity to SF. Normally, my brother Tom, Steve would come to help me at the show, but this year was not meant to be, so my dad decided to tag along. He is not a pen person, so he was totally amazed that there are so many pen people. Danitrio usually introduce new pens at LA show, and this year is no exception. We had limited amount of octagon Tame-midori which were all gone by Saturday! I meant to bring my camera to the show to take pictures of new pens before offering them for sale, but I forgot!!!

There are about 100 Poems in a literary collection call "Hyakunin Isshyu" and all maki-e themes are inspired by these poems. I am awaiting translation.

1) This pen is sold to another FPN member here and she just narrowly beat another PT member for this pen. The name of the pen is "Asaborake"

2) "Akikazu no Tsuki" This one is about the moon, the swaying shadow of the plants in autumn wind. The shadow is so subtle, I can't capture here well. $1650 US, $1675 international, cc filler, Takumi size (MB 149)

3) "Sakura Fubuki" or Sakura Storm. I really like this pen, not only the flower petal is done with MOP cut to size, the Maki-e artist further applied more maki-e on each flower petal, such details! $1950 US and $1975 international. CC filler Takumi size.

4) This one is call the "Yura no To", and this one gives lots of color contrast with plaitnum powder lavishly applied on the barrel to give quite stunning effects. $1650 US and $1675 international. CC filler, Takumi size.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HHAHAHAHAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!

Who is the artist on these pens?

You know Kevin, I am going to need to get "Akikazu no Tsuki" later. You need the Sun and the Moon after all. I could see collecting all four of these, easily

Oh. Just "oh". Took my breath away. Kevin really must be given some sort of award for upping the aesthetic sensibilities of pen people. I thought I knew what a beautiful pen was before I opened my first thread about Danis. Thanks you for sharing the pics, Kevin.

I think it would be better for me if I stop coming to FPN .... Or visit every 3 years from now on .. Beautiful pens and very skilled artisans. Kudos to the maker, Kevin!

It's worse going to the Pen Show. Then you are a captive audience and Kevin is so nice!

The artist is Koichiro Okazawa, and one of my favorite. He is so detail in his execution and stick to traditional methods.

Very tempting Kevin.

All you need to do is show me these pens when I come pick up my pen. Maybe I should bring some cash just in case. :P

I think your Dad was overwhelmed by us. Rational looking on the outside... until we saw your table. I peeked into the lucite boxes of Maki-e and then backed away. i still cannot believe how beautiful that pen is!

OPERATIVE word: POOR! :crybaby: :roflmho: Realize that all my Danitrio's from Kevin would be the equivalent thereabouts of one of these beauties! Imagine if one of us walked out with 5 of THESE beauties?! :bonk:

now I have pens by

Koichiro Okayuki - Tame-Ake Bokashi-nuri

Masayuku Hariya - Kin Botan-nuri Prototype

and Koichiro Okazawa - Asaborake.

Did Masanori Omote do the Mikado Sakura-kawa?

It's almost as much fun collecting artist as pens!

The problem is that I can imagine walking out with 5 of these pens.

I also live within driving distance of Kevin's place. Must use willpower!

I can PayPal using my cellphone. :eureka:

When I first joined this forum, I said that my other hobbies are more expensive. That's still true but the Japanese Maki-e pens are pretty close.

How does one know who's who? Some my pens don't have artist signatures...

I no-longer have any other hobbies... pocketknives, watches, coins, stamps, japanese dishware.... they are all frozen in place.

The good news is I will be selling off alot of pens I have collected over the years as I am now focused....humm, focus may be a BAD thing!!!!
