Just got my Montblanc Chopin in the mail with a new .7mm Cursive Italic Binderized nib and must say...I am truly spoiled. This nib writes incredibly and if anyone wants to know if the Binder process is worth it...let me tell you that I wholeheartedly think it is.

Another convert to the Brotherhood of the Binder Cursive Italic.

Welcome brother - and pass the ink.

It really does make ordinary handwriting more interesting. The line width variation gives your writing a classy visual texture.

Congrats Maestro.

Hmm.... Trouble is, I haven't done any business at all with Richard yet. But.... I've heard hundreds of good things about him, zero negative. And when the time comes, I think I'll start off by ordering a Bexley from him.

I agree completely. I saw Richard this weekend at the Philadelphia show and he worked on couple of my pens. One of them was a vintage Conway Stewart 84 that came to me with a sprung nib that had worn down dead flat. Richard unsprung the nib and ground it to a neutral stub for me, and now it's a small gem of a great writing pen. :clap1: :clap1: :clap1:

All kidding aside: I too had Richard grind and tweak one of my pens a couple years ago, and the way that pen wrote when he was finished is now the standard by which I judge all my pens. Amazing! I can't wait to have another one done.

I've never done the cursive italic deal, but would like to. I've got a couple great nibs for candidates.

Congratulations! What size standard MB nib did you start with?

I started with a broad nib. I never use such a large nib but I knew where it was headed before I bought it...twas my intention from the start. There are places on his site that tell what nibs he needs to start with.

And to Pepin...besides to tell you that these glorious nibs are worth every bit of the wait and cost, I should also tell you that he will sometimes agree to expedite his work for an additional fee. Just remember...if you would have sent it yesterday then you'd be a day closer to having it back!

You can also avoid the wait at Nibmeister Binder's workbench by:

a. Purchasing a new pen from him, which he will tune and modify immediately - shipped in days

b. Bring your pen to a Pen Show where he will regind the nib while you watch.

Is this true? I seem to recall Richard taking a pretty firm stance that his queue was strictly "first come, first served."

I thought only John Mottishaw offered the "expediting price".

Threads like this are really unfair to Richard, or to any craftsman who attempts to do his job well. Nobody deserves kudos like "deity". We are all human and make mistakes.

I've never met Mr. Binder (from his big reputation here I'd guess he does very good work), but I have met two people in the past month who received pens from Mr. Binder that they were dissatisfied with. It does happen.

And if they contacted Richard and told him why they were dissatisfied he would correct the problem immediately...

Richard's customer service is fantastic....

I agree about the Deity title...... Demi-God is more like it... since mistakes can (rarely) happen

Firstly, recognize that "immediately" isn't always good enough. See the last entry in the link. Secondly, some newbies blame themselves for the rare flaw and either never use the pen again, try to fix the nib themselves (poorly), or quit FP use entirely. Notifying newbies that even Richard and John make mistakes but that they'll "make it write right" is a good thing to do.
