Nakaya - worth the wait?

It's been a terribly long day today but I still wanted to share this with everyone (because I'm very excited :D)

In July, I ordered my first Nakaya with the help of Laura (Phthalo, who is an absolute legend). After the grand realisation that Nakaya in fact takes Paypal, I got excited and quickly put an order for my second Nakaya: this baby, the coloured Chinkin Palmet. I ordered it in early August with a request to receive it by my birthday at the end of October.

I absolutely hate waiting and this was going to be my 'make or break' Nakaya as it would allow me to determine whether they were worth the 2-3 month wait. Well, they missed my birthday last Thursday but I received the package and the pen today.

In a nutshell: WOW. I ordered it with an elastic, flexible fine nib that is so much flexier than the flexible fine and much easier to use. The craftsmanship is beyond compare and well justifies the waiting time. Holding this piece in my hand now, I would be happy waiting 5 months for a pen as unique as this one, the coloured powders, the Kikyo urushi lacquer and the Chinkin engraving all combined are absolutely breathtaking.

Before I lose coherency, let me just let the photos do the talking. (apologies for the poor lighting, it's midnight and I'm making do with a desk light :P)

Wow! That's amazing! Like you, I found that, once I had my Nakaya in hand, the wait was 100% worthwhile. Congratulations on a real stunner! :puddle:

Welcome to the Nakaya-owners club :D Although my own Nakaya is just the basic coloured kikyo urushi.

Great pen. Do some more photos to show the color better.

I hope you spent some of the funds that I sent you for the long-Piccolo Green Chingin Housoge Nakaya Chin-gin Housoge link to buy your wonderful Kikyo Chinkin Palmet pen.

Enjoy....

I've had a jade and a kikyo on order since August. This will take my count up to 4. I have a serious addiction. hard to put down once you start writing

Well... taking into consideration that pens are by far less problematic than people... and that once a human being comes into the production stage (not the design stage)... and that it takes 9 months to obtain the base product.... a few months waiting for such a pen IS NOTHIIINGGG!!! :P

Congratulations, you have a fantastic pen there which well worth all the wait and patience needed...

That is a truly beautiful pen, and I congratulate you on its purchase.

If the pound hadn't fallen through the floor relative to the dollar recently I'd be ordering one myself round about now. Sigh.

Happy birthday!

Wow! That's one lovely pen!

I was almost convinced that if I ever were to get a Nakaya it would have to have raden. This pen really competes with what I'd consider the ideal Nakaya for me.

Thank you everyone for the kind wishes! I don't think photos can do this pen justice, but its beauty just blows me away. It is an even better writer than it looks!

:( When I placed this order, I actually ordered two pens. I stressed to them that it was very important that I receive this one by my birthday (they tried, so even though they missed it, I'm still happy they got it fairly close). I told them that I wasn't fussed about the second one, they could take their time with it as long as they could make an effort to get this one out in time. I think it was a trade off, I did get this Chinkin Palmet in pretty good time, but my other Nakaya has been bumped down the line and I'm due to receive it at the beginning or mid-December. Interestingly enough, the other Nakaya was already a completed pen when I placed my order...they're just really taking their sweet time getting it to me.

However, after holding this one in hand, I am more than happy to wait. It is well worth it!

Great looking pen. What is the base color?

The base is the Piccolo Cigar with Kikyo (blue) lacquer. It's the same pen as shown in the link to Nakaya's special order page.
